I got the following link on an email from Rocketski and thought I'd share it http://www.rocketski.com/newsletters/ebd-25-09-09.html?utm_source=n250909&utm_medium=em&utm_campaign=ebd-extended (hope the link works ok) I added it to the original thread on Rocketski so people can make up their own minds - I have used Equity a few times. Same resorts/accommodation but with Rocketski you make up your own components. Thought people might like a look, see what's on offer. Dids |

It may be the rule, but it really does seem unreasonable to me. If he paid for 2 bags totalling 30kg and only took 1 totalling 19kg (is that right?) then it does seem very inflexible.
Rules or no rules. I can see why you are gnashing your teeth Ian, even if strictly speaking Ryan Air have only followed their policy. |

Caron-a,
Presumably you've checked there are other children in the school group who can ski? We were undecided until we found out that at least 5 others could and would be put in an ability group together. They had a trial on the dry slope where the teacher made sure they were capable skiers. On the 1st morning they were straight on the gondola and up to the top of the mountain. My daughter has been skiing since she was 4, has raced on dry slopes and had many hours of training. At no point did she consider herself too good for lessons and we noticed a huge difference in her skiing when she went again in April. They were taught a lot of disciplines and weren't allowed to hare all over the mountain as they might if not in lessons. She was delighted with her experience, especially being able to ski with other kids. Structure and discipline are a very important part of any sport and I am sure he will have a fantastic time. |

My daughter went with her school last Feb. We gave her 100 euros spending as recommended by the school. She spent 15! Everything was included too, she said what they needed a bit of money for was when they were charged a euro to use the loo. |

Hey Snowb4ndit,
We were there a couple of years ago, tho we didn't stay in Les M, but down the road in Praranger. We drove and had to start our day from Les M. It's great there. you're so quickly away from the ugly buildings, it doesn't take long to ski to Val Thorens or Meribel. Courcheval was a bit further, but all easily done in a day. We went in April school holidays, barely a queue in sight as well. Don't take too much notice of what people say bout how it looks. Like you say, you're going for the skiing and it's not like you are expecting choc box pretty. The lifts out of Les M are fast and some of the bubbles had covers too. We really liked it there for the skiing. St Martin de Belleville is a pretty little village & worth a visit if you get chance. Enjoy. |

With regard to Peak Retreats -
We went to Samoens a few years ago (independently) but there were a few people who had booked with PR. They were very happy with their holiday, but weren't aware of an offer that the village do where all kids under 12 were free for accommodation, ski hire, lessons and lift passes if an adult took the same products. This was for Easter and I think they might have done it for Christmas too. (can't find on their website for coming season, however.) Obviously this did not apply with the tour operator and they'd paid for it all up front. They were pretty philosophical about it, but had they booked directly with the Hotel they'd have been a lot better off. We did - and we did a week in Easter school holidays for a very good price. My point is - make sure you've priced the cost of going with a tour operator against booking it yourself. It would be a good idea to email the local tourist office to ask about any deals they may have. I always thought the Samoens one was too good to be true. But it wasn't! |

Very envious Dave of your guide dogs. I applied earlier this year to walk a guide dog, but we are not in an area where applications are currently being considered.
I had a long chat to the co-ordinator when I applied and I think I would have been suitable. Oh well. Maybe one day. They look like lovely dogs. |
