When you buy a week long pass in Obergurgl or Soelden, you get the option, for an extra 10 €, to have a day in the other resort. You must do this at the time of booking.

It is my understanding that a free ski bus between the two runs at very regular intervals.

Sadly, Dave, I don't think that will work out. I'm home early on the Monday, so the plan is to stay in Soelden on Sunday. Never mind...

I'm in Soelden for a week from March 5 - wondered if any J2-ers were about and fancied skiing with me for a morning, afternoon or longer?

I'm staying in the hamlet of Zwieselstein (where the US ski team has its European HQ), which is up the road towards Obergurgl, so will definitely be having a day, or two perhaps, there.

So if you're there, I'd be delighted to meet you! :)

Not bad - the chalet at the bottom of the cable car is a good and noisy place to start with a beer or two; the Yucatan's happy hour is something to behold -almost Austrian apres-ski in style - and the best value in town. The bar in the Hoheneck often has a live music act but avoid if they're featuring Swiss musician Baum - a bloody awful din.

Most annoying, when the PROGRAMME cut out, particularly as it was about the bloke who was on the slopes again after almost killing himself!

Heel or toe of the bindings - and stick em in a pocket when carrying skis.

A cautionary tale from the 1970s before brakes were integrated into bindings and we used 'safety straps'.

I was skiing in Sauze D'Oulx on a lonely piste through the trees, fell on some ice, negotiating a steep left hander. Right ski tip dug into the snow, leaving me dangling down the piste from the safety strap. I was unable to get up and led there for several minutes until someone came to my assistance!

Powder ribbons work - I've some bright yellow ones that tuck into my ski trousers.

Skiing down from the Krazy Kangaroo with a a shedload of beer aboard and loads of other drukards is one of the great apres activities....and dangerous too!
