Yesterday Tom Wilson-North skinned up the Pierre à Ric to check things out http://www.chamonixsnowreport.com/view/classic Since then a fair bit more snow has fallen, the road over the col des Montets is closed, there's now 50cm in Argentière village and a metre at Lognan. The Aiguilles Rouges weather station recorded 45cm at 10pm last night. Things are looking a lot better now, but it is still very windy high up and it's still too warm. Hopefully it will get colder at the weekend.

still to warm in what way ? is there a chance of it melting ? just hoping it keeps on coming. as i said before not just from a selfish point of view but for the greater good.

if the weather continues to hold and.more snow falls is there a chance other areas in the chamonix valley will open ??? seems all reports lead to grand montets but surely theres other areas receiving the same snow. ????

25cm forecast tonight and another 40cm tomorrow.

I too had noticed that they were opening this weekend. thought i had still seen that it would be subject to snow fall. seems plenty is falling and my concern of a rise in the temp that was forecast for the weekend seems to have disappeared and on some sites replaced with some seriously cold weather next weekend like -25 next saturday night, pretty confident now. Reckon were gonna stick on piste as i can se there still being plenty of rocks to ruin my new skis should i not be concentrating.

Bring on next saturday. happy days the snow is here.

Just been looking 0n the web cams and seems to be coming down pretty heavy in chamonix right now, One cam in perticular shows the train tracks at around 2000m and its coming thick and fast. just jope it contimues. also just seen the pictures on the tignes thread and it looks awesome there. real deep fresh snow . how far from chamonix is tignes ??? as most of the cams in chamonix are onscured is the tignes weather any kind of indication as to the conditions in chamonix ???? almost stating to feel positive that my new skis and boots might get an airing next weekend after all.

Apart from the recent higher than usual temperatures there is nothing abnormal about the start of this season. I've known much worse, in 1989/90 and in 2000/01 it didn't snow until January. Before you even think about cancelling talk to somebody in Chamonix preferably at the lift company, they should be able to tell you what the situation regarding opening is. You might also get some comfort from looking at the snow history http://www.fasttrackski.co.uk/snow-report-history.php?resort_id=36 and bear in mind that the lift company employs nearly 400 people so they don't need much time to get ready for opening.

thank you very much. looking this morning seems like there is still small amounts falling as there is now snow down to the village this morning. looking at the forecasts as you say lots can change and it all seems to depend on the next 48hrs as some sites are predicting over 70cm . i very much doubt that will fall but got to stay possitive. in your opinion how much is needed early on ? also after tomorrow there is very little if any forecast would they then start using snow cannons etc on the grand montets ? temp seems to be holding. i just cabt imagine they will want opening day to be christmas day or later. surely the financial impact of that will be huge let alone having all the staff you mention hanging around .

So in your opinion do you think they will open on 10th december in any way ? and being selfish if not be open in some way on 17th decenber ??? if so little has fell will they use snow cannons ??? im seriously considering cancelling my flights and moving the hotel booking to next year. we will still loose a lot of money though. last thing i want to do is fly out there for nothing. and by.nothing i mean no skiing. any advice would be appreciated.
Borovets - Mount Moussala

Have to say the so called blue and green runs are a joke in borovets. they areso dangerous. there not much wider than a piste basher . steep drop one side and a ridiculous route down an icy u bend to transition between easy runs before it turns from blue to black in around 50yards. and im sorry but my biggest concern was that you were skiing the village easy runs and all of a sudden you cutting accross a black coming down the moutain. now warning you just pop out of the trees and there you are with the risk of clashing with anyome coming down and to top it off there so narrow my partner a low level skier almost went on to the black trying to avoid the crowd that had built as i result of finding them self at right angles to a very steep black.

but all is not doom and gloom my partner really enjoyed the blues and greens at the top of the gondola. much wider and pleasant views. stay away from the resort runs. venture up top and if you can let your daughter come back down the gondola ( with friends of course ) and you ski and meet her at the bottom. great end to the day . obviously your call regarding your daughter. juat hope you have better weather and conditions than we did. dont be too negative you will enjoy it and im sure your daughter will have a great timw on the long top blue and greens. all the best and hope this has helped.
