Now that view looks familiar :)

Hi Billip, I am pretty sure it is something to do with the fact they use 3 cables. This makes them more stable, allows longer runs between pylons and allows for greater carrying capacity over other systems.
Was looking at it yesterday and thinking it was the worst condition I can ever recall seeing it. Hope they get some soon, the schools and pre season warm up trips will all be leaving in the next few weeks.
Tips on Mayrhofen

There is a small bar opposite the entrance to the Penkenbahn which is owned by an ex ski racer, we used to end up stopping in there everyday on the way back down. Nice friendly bar. There is also a butcher next door to it that serves the most fantastic food.

Otherwise, there are loads of bars and restaurants, it really will be a case of whatever takes your fancy.

With a nervous skier, you may just need to see how busy the different areas are each day, but don't rule out the Ahorn side which is often quiter because it is smaller. Also, you can hop on the bus and pop up to the Hintertux galcier, nice big wide pistes and not usually as busy.

You will need to either ski down elsewhere and get the bus back or come down in the Penkenbahn at the end of the day. This can mean it gets really busy at this time, so bear that in mind with a nervous skier.

You should enjoy it though, I loved it and will deffo go back.

Remembered the name of the small bar, it is called the Happy End. We also went into Mo's a fair bit, the food looked pretty good in there, but we were eating in our hotel.

I think we might be in for a very harsh winter. The squirrels are really going mad collecting nuts. Three of my family have gone missing already! :)

While not quite a ski trip, I just booked a hotel in Vienna for the Christmas Markets and for the first time in as long as I can remember got the best price by going direct to the hotel.

We also got a great deal when booking direct with the hotel for my first ski trip to Italy next season. Easy for me as I drive, but it all helps.
I still say that they have all missed a trick with these new lifts. Not one of them I have seen or used has got any windscreen wipers or demisters on the canopy! :o
