Me too, also, but I wouldn't stay in the Planibel at La Thuile - very Eastern European!!!

Best pair of ski trousers I ever had were made by SOS - mid-price range but lasted for years. Now have some Rossingnol (lighter weight) for warm days and Colombia for colder days.
Does anyone else think North Face has become the modern equivalent of Rodeo and Nevica?!!!! And what is a salapet? A domesticated lizard, perhaps!!! |

I stayed in the Des Guides (but it was 1980!) so I suspect a lot may have changed. If I recall, it didn't have its own restaurant, the Cave des Guides alongside the cinema in the basement was under separate management. The rooms were small, with a sloping ceiling, although the lounge area was very comfortable and decorated with the owner's memorabilia from Everest expeditions etc.
Very, very, very convenient for the lifts and virtually ski to the door at the end of the day. |

You say you've never been to ski school, so can I urge you to take some lessons. You may think you're doing ok, and I'm sure that's so, but you're bound to have acquired some bad habits along the way - and these bad habits could well hamper your progress for years to come.
There's a good reason we have ski instructors - like driving instructors, flying instructors, any kind of teacher - they make learning easier and we're all better skiers, drivers and pilots etc as a result. I've been skiing since 1973 and I still have a private lesson or two on most trips. It's money well spent. The sermon ends..... |
