Why is Lapland so cheap?

Frostbite?! That's a bit serious!

I'm with you on the log cabin/general winter fun theme. That's what appeals to me. The catered chalet deal is sounding better by the minute as other than extra drinks outside meals (this is where the duty free could kick in), and excursions we'd have nothing to pay. Conclusion - not a ski holiday, but definitely a fun holiday and one for the future. And we'll definitely be taking advantage of the heated suits! 8) Happy days :D

Also, no smoking.

Dave - hang on now. I liked you until you said that.

Seems like it's all a very personal choice. Whether to exercise or not, how often, doing what etc. I'll be really interested to see whether my efforts pay off this year. Or not

Thanks for the detail Ally. I'm really not surprised you were super fit in 8 weeks! Going to look back over it all again later today. Now I'm off for a short run while the roads are quiet :D

Wow. Thanks RoseR. Lapland has suddenly slid much further down the list  Still sounds like fun, but I'll wait until I have more money to spare! And -35... yes Tony_H I think it's fair to describe that as very very cold!

Definitely. I've already reserved my instructor (http://www.1-skischule-wildschoenau.at/skischule1_eng.html)! He helped me loads last year with gaining confidence. This year's mission is to build more confidence, and to get rid of any bad habits that may be creeping in (sticky out bum  !). Aside from that am going to leave it to Walter to decide if there's anything specific I should do next. That approach worked last year so if it ain't broke why fix it?!

Alistair - I'd pay for that one! Wonder if I could get him to wear a Santa hat too?!

Its also very very cold.

Tony_H - Aha, that explains the heated thermal suits they give you. I just thought it was a bit OTT for the wimps  Doh!

Tino_11 - could you let me know what it's like? If I remember rightly one of the resorts has a respectable amount of skiing. Will have to check the brochure again to find out if I made that up or not.

Definitely coming to the conclusion it's not a ski hol, but more a general winter fun type thing. Made the mistake of showing my Sis-in-law in the meantime though. Now she wants to go see the reindeer

Eat less and more exercise leads to weight loss ...... I think

Yeah it is supposed to be that easy. Been 4 weeks now though and I haven't shed a single pound  Fitness is definitely improving though. Perhaps I'll just end up one of those fat people that everyone writes off, but actually whips the butt off the skinnies!

I never get properly fit, I really dont see the need for recreational skiing.

I don't disagree with that. Personally draw the line when my holiday suffers though. I want to be able to enjoy myself properly this year, and hopefully ski harder runs, which I think you need a little extra strength for. Last year I kept going all day and ended up falling a couple of times 'cos my legs didn't have enough left to keep me stable. Not good. Plus I need to lose weight anyway. Apparently I'm obese according to my BMI. Although it always has been strangely high, even when people kept telling me I looked a little thin it was 24.

AllyG out of curiosity, what does it say in your Inghams book? I'm trying to work out some structure so I have goals and don't just give up when I get bored/tired!
