Agreed.

Riding a Vespa is cool too, and furry ears... it goes without saying.

But crazy frog.... I'm struggling...
Awesome  I'd put a lot of money down that I wouldn't be able to keep up with them anywhere on the mountain. I so hope I'm as funky as them when I'm a pensioner :D

I read this and shuddered. I completely agree that it should be down to personal choice, and have said it many times. Despite making my choince in favour of wearing a lid, the thought that the H&S brigade could get their evil talons stuck into skiing saps my will to live.

Cheap, light, and easily replaced if mislaid, with a hotel hand towel, pair of pants or even a coffee shop napkin. Perfect.

EmmaEvs, Brilliant & all sounds so much more fashionable than a lid,
even Tony might go for it if you can wrap an arsenal shirt round it.

Mmmmm we could even carry around sets of crayons so that if we get bored of the current design (or god forbid find ourselves in a venue where someone else has the same one), we can just find a substitute, scribble away, wrap it on and off we go.

Tony the point I was making related to Andy's quote about helmets needing to be ridiculously large to offer any protection over 30mph. That doesn't appear to be accurate because clearly helmets can be made which protect against impacts above that speed. When you say that a helmet is probably useless for motorbike accidents that's pretty far out. They have saved lives, there's no doubt about it. From real life situations to videos that have done the rounds, I've seen it with my own eyes. The falls people walk away from are mindblowing. If ski helmets are (arguably) not providing enough protection, they could do worse that to look at helmet designs which do provide protection at greater speed. Seems to make sense.

"When in Rome..."

See a gap, get in to it, don't hesitate, don't give an inch, don't look back. NO REGRETS!

Child specific tip - if they're pushing in from the side of you draw smiley faces in the snow with your pole. By the time they've figured it out and shown their mates you're on your way :D

Andy where did this quote come from? I'm no expert but it doesn't seem to make sense to me. I'm sure technology/materials are more advanced than that because motorbike lids are meant to protect your noggin at higher speeds than this. Just checked the Arai site, and their latest lid is even penetration tested (ooh err). MotoGP riders can travel in excess of 200mph, they have some pretty nasty crashes of all kinds including head impacts. I'm not saying they don't pick up big injuries, but considering some of the offs, serious head injuries are relatively rare. They definitely don't wear lids which are this size. As Bandit said in a previous post, skiing accidents are thought to be becoming more like bike accidents and I can see why. Speed is increasing and pistes are pretty hard (even liquid water is like concrete if you hit it hard enough), so it's not a million miles away.
