I should point out though that I was skiing on piste, and it sounds like you guys go for something a little more tasty! I may have just been lucky that they didn't come off. |

 I recently found out that I can fall faster than I can ski down a slope. I could have sworn somebody shouted to me "Dig your skis in!" while I was doing a head first impression of an upside down speeding turtle, but my BF said he couldn't remember hearing it. When I dug them in as best I could it didn't feel as though it was making much difference although I did come to a stop not too long afterwards, ending up feet facing down the mountain and and jammed in a frog position with one ski pointing one way and the other, well, the other.
I did wonder afterwards what would have happened if I hadn't stopped as I was heading for a long patch where there were lots of rocks and trees and very little snow. Not sure if this helps at all but I can tell you how to get out of being jammed in a frog position with skis pointing in opposite directions. :D |

Hi guys, sorry to off on a tangent here, but wanted to pick up on something Dave Mac said.
Been to Neiderau twice and fully expect to return there regularly. I suspect I know which shop the first one you went to was. My partner and I are still having the 'rent or buy' dilemma re skis so at the moment we rent. Would you say that it would be better to go to Margreiter for this rather than the other place? I fully confess to knowing very little about skis other than some very basic stuff  |

Thanks for the welcome Ally :D
You guys are very fortunate to be blessed with sweet smelling extremities  I felt real sorry for the people who ended up at close range in a gondola with me when I did the big reveal to get some fresh air. Smelt like a sweaty horse and had a curious mix of partially straight, partially curly hair. I blame the odour on the fact I had a rental lid and the person before me must have been a minger! I think I've spotted one of those lids with the vents - a must methinks. And if anybody spots socks etc with vents feel free to send a link! |

For what it's worth (seeing as this topic's been trounced already) my hair looks godawful after a day's skiing whether I wear a wooly hat or a lid!
As far as stats go, I'll leave the analysis of these to people with more time. Wore a lid for the first time this year (only my third time skiing) following a pretty firm 'request' from my other half, which I chose not to challenge. Verdict - it's sweaty and I looked like a bit of a pleb. However, if it helps me just once over my skiing life to avoid a bump turning in to a big deal involving hospital visits, 'fit to fly' notes etc during my precious holiday time then I guess it's worth it. If it prevents something even worse then better again. I know the odds are stacked against an accident of this type - but it's gotta happen to someone, and I don't remember getting a ticket guaranteeing I will be excluded from the law of averages  So I am resigned to forever being a sweaty pleb on future ski hols - give me a wave when you see me :D |
