:DHi again,

Now that you mention this ,i only travel out midweek to midweek (usually a wed or thurs ) so i am unsure as to autoeurope for weekend travel sorry.

The europecar drop in box (frenchside at Geneva) is at the end of the europcar desk just to the left of the double glass doors that lead to the hire car carpark via a glass walkway,on the swiss side i would imagine that the drop in box is located at the desk just the same.

Best of luck with you're search and have a safe and enjoyable trip.

:DHi Which ever airport i have used (mainly Geneva or Grenoble ) i always use Auto Europe 0800 169 9797 , www.auto-europe.co.uk they use Europecar but are more often than not cheaper than going direct to the car hire firms themselves.

How they areable to do this is probably down to the exchange rates as they have an office in Manchester but are actually located in Maine, New England,USA.

I have used them maybe 12 - 16 times now and have never had a problem and always have a very competetive rate.

best of luck and have a safe tripwhen you go

Which Beer?

:)Hi My best choice for beers after skiing has to be
:DMutzig in Le Ferme in Le Pre
:DGuinness in Blacks in Whistler ( my bar tab for $196 for a single person in a single session still not beaten i think, for some reason though i did not manage to drink much in the Boot Bar the other end of Town when the exotic dancers were in?).
:Dand lastly a cold beer follwed by a hot jaegerti (god knows how you spell this) in the Mooswirt or KrazyKangeroo in St.Anton.

early season - meribel or tignes?

:DHi ,

I agree with Bandit ,Tignes is the better option as there is the benifit of the Grande Motte glacier, and skiing from 2100mtrs+,although there is high altitude skiing in the Trois Valleee's resorts if the snow cover is poor (hopefully not) then it is still a bit of a trek to Val Thorens which is usually okay early on).

Also near Tignes is the Pissalaise glacier above Le Fornet just up the road from Val D'Isere at the start of the Col D'Iseran which is not a million miles away by car or bus,Tignes has one of the best snow records in europe so should not be a problem (although the weather is not 100% reliable anywhere)but i have a feeling it will be another great year again.

Summer holibobs

:DHi Guys & Gals,

Since my first skiing holiday about 18yrs ago i think i have only spent two weeks lying on a beach some where, all my holidays are now taken in the alps winter ir summer.

My time on holiday is taken up with the usual walking, swimming, eating and drinking etc,and generally just having a relaxing meander about.I suppose its all down to personnal preference,in the tarentaise area (as across all the alps) summer temperatures can be in the 90's down at lower altitudes and still be snowy high up.I remember doing the five lakes walk above Bourg-st-maurice one august about 4 years ago and it was warm down in bourg, but up at the top of the walk it was icy cold and wet,on our return we lookd up and as the clouds parted slightly we saw it had snowed in the time it took us to drive down to town and had left a fairly substantial amount of snow....magic.

Hi All,

I thought that one of the key points of skiing was to learn to adapt you're skiing and technique to cope with the ever changing weather ,environment and snow conditions found on any mountain during the course of a days skiing?

Maybe some skiers are not keen on improving thier technique which will have the effect of a much more enjoyable time skiing (it would also improve thier chances of staying unhurt)

Just a thought

Hi All,

Looks like this has been a fab year for the white stuff,am off to BsM & Les Arcs on tuesday morning until the 15th for a nearly end of season blast. At this time of year there will be virtually nobody about(almost like having you're own private ski resort).

If anyone is thnking of having a last minute week, the skiing in Les Arcs ends on 26th April (last skiable day)and if you see more than 100 pople all week this will be crowded, also the lift passes are normally half price in the last week, and the last couple of years if you buy you're passes daily the final day has been free,if the forecasts hold true more of the fluffy white stuff is planned so should be good.

I will be the clown in the Technica icon boots, salomon skis, black salopettes and the 18 year old red and purple Berghaus fleece( does that make me sound like a tight sod?),if you see me say hi.

For all those that have been this season i hope you all had a safe ,enjoyable trip and the same to those of you planning a last minute one.To all those unlucky enough to have sustained an injury while in the mountains i hope you have a speady trouble free recovery (and not to let it put you off going again next season).
