Re getting the board out to resort, my son has got one of those snowboard bags on wheels which is also a suitcase. Seems to work well and gets checked in the oversize luggage section along with skis, etc. So far he has never had the weight of it queried on TO charter flights.
Re looking like Ronald MacDonald, try selling burgers as you go down the mountain and it may pay for holiday....... |

Haven't been as early as December but have stayed in Madonna (once) and Folgarida (twice as it was so good) in early March and had brilliant holidays. Marilleva has a snowboard park and I think they have now put in a gondola link all the way down to the valley floor to link with the rail route. We found the whole Folgarida/Marilleva area really friendly and very good value. Madonna is more upmarket but has some great runs. There is certainly a bus to Madonna from Folgarida and one to Passo Tonnale - not sure about links from Marilleva though. Have a freshly made pizza at the top of Monte Spolverino - they are the size of a steering wheel and delicious! You'll know you have found the right place as you can hear the thumping music as you approach on the chair lift!! The whole area is great for beginners to experts. Have a great holiday - I shall think of you when I am in Lech that week.

Perhaps it wasn't working because someone had fallen over the edge! We were amazed at the lack of netting. Can't really remember the run as the drag experience left me just grateful to get into the cafe at the bottom for a chocolat chaud.

Not been to C-M but went to Zermatt for our 25th wedding anniversary in January a few years ago. Not an easy place to ski on a budget but deals do come up - keep an eye on Total offers amongst others. Town is lovely although we found the electric cars a nuisance. Ski buses link the lifts. The ski areas were not well linked when we were there but I think this may have improved now. The Gornergratt cog railway is a scenic trip up the mountain but is quite slow and a squash first thing. Incredible views from the restaurant at the top. The Sunnega underground railway takes you up to some good runs - some with adverse camber - but might not be a good idea for anyone with claustrophobia! Great mountain restaurants and many with live music. Matterhorn dominates Zermatt and a trip round the churchyard is quite fascinating as it is full of graves of people who have fallen off! Winds can be fierce which makes skiing difficult and the lifts close. We really enjoyed the experience of going to Zermatt and you probably would too but not sure it would be quite right for your wife yet?

I think that all the ski hire shops in Montgenevre are owned by the same family by the name of Parvesi. The rates for hire are probably therefore the same in all of them. Look out for a drag lift going up to Chalvet area which is a sheer drop down the mountain on the left side and wall of snow on the right. I remember clinging onto this one as tightly as I could - if you come off it there really is nowhere to go.....
