Pavel,

My girlfriend has very limited dorsiflexion in her ankle joint - it runs in her family, her sister is the same.

If she bends her knees forward she ends up on the balls of her feet with her heels in the air.

She has atomic boots with the Hard/Soft adjusters on the rear but I couldn't work out which setting would work best with here limited ankle flex. Part of me thinks it should be soft to make it easier to flex the boot and part of me thinks it should be hard so that she can maintain pressure on the shin of the boot with the limited ankle flex that she has (part of me also thinks she probably wouldn't tell the difference either way but that's besides the point).

What would you recommend?

That deserved a Google - 'Tennis Elbow' doesn't have the same ring to it.

What edge tools do you carry in your pocket when skiing?

They're bound to be good - they've got matching jackets!

Seriously, from the little I know it looks very good. I hate it when people make it look so easy!

But then you might survive the impact with the tree, bounce off and bang your head on an Alpine Marmot and die. If you had a helmet on then you would probably be alive - not so sure about the marmot though.

Anyway, everybody knows that the main reason for wearing a helmet is so that you can wear your goggles on your forehead without them misting up!

I was just thinking the very same thing! Presumably you just read Pavels link too.

I have bought a helmet for this season. Haven't used it in anger yet - lots of time spent wandering around the house in it though!

Last year my skiing speed was starting to get quite high, plus a lot of the pistes were very icey. Not a good combination.

I wouldn't think of riding my bike without a helmet so it seemed daft not to wear one when skiing.

I think the girlfriend will be getting one for this season too although it does mean giving up her beloved hat.
Interesting.

A bit surprised to learn that 'The purpose of the [pole] strap is to hang the poles up on a hook'?????

Surely they are there so you don't drop them on the piste and create danger for others.

Anyway, about the knees - some of the causes of knee injuries - 'attempting to get up while still moving after a fall' - Yep, I can relate to that one.
