ADH is a great resort. We were there just after New Year and the crowds and queues were horrendous -e.g. 30 minute wait at Marmottes chair. Pistes were very busy and I got collected from behind by a black guy who "didn't see" me.
Still had great skiing though but the queues spoilt the fun a little. Would love to do it again during a quieter period. |

Jakobshorn would be excellent in better conditions. There is a ton of skiing around Davos and they got another dump as we left yesterday morning.
Will post a report and some pickiest later. My reservation about Davos is the cost. It would be fine if you are a millionaire and a lot of the people who go go there are but Austria and Italy have just as good skiing for a lot less money. Have a good trip and let us know your thoughts. |

Skied Jakobshorn today. Icy, crumbly pistes with some poorly graded and bashed pistes. Nearly killed my daughter and wife trying to get them down a narrow icy "blue" with a drop off to the side that should have had safety net. Also took a wrong turn due to lack of signage.
I then crashed 3 times trying to get down to the village on the blue #3 which was an icy narrow goat track littered with ruts and pot holes. I have skied blacks that are easier and safer. My daughter wanted to come down it as it is marked "blue" on the piste map but luckily I cajoled her into downloading via gondola. Poor grading, signage and piste bashing of that sort is dangerous and really pisses me off considering the horrendous lift ticket prices and lack of half day option. We paid 10CHF on the slopes for the worst "espresso" and hot chocolate ever. Stunning day and views though. |

Rather be in Champoluc than Davos

Skied Parsenn twice. Saturday 22nd was excellent. Yesterday was very warm (forecast for 11 degrees in the vlage) and as the sunnier slopes are quite busy the pistes looked like battlefields by 10. They had the piste bashers out in a futile attempt to bully them back into shape.
Webers cafe opposite Parsenn station very good. |

Arrived in Davos this afternoon. Monterosa villages much prettier and easier to get around. As for eating out there is no contest. Look to pay a good thirty percent more for food. Dinner tonight was ok but 8 Francs (6eu) for a 100ml of house white is a rort. The bloody glass came out empty whereas in Italy they were brimming them.

Only my subjective opinion on lift speed. The quads aren't super high speed but they are decent. In cricket bowling terms I would rate them as fast medium pacers. Not express like Brett Lee, more like Jimmy Anderson, which is quick enough. Bear in mind I didn't et out of Champoluc valley. Maybe other valleys have clunkers. |

Met some Brits who normally stay at Hotel Champoluc which they rate highly. Definite ski in ski out at the moment.
As for bars I can't help you as we don't party hard nowadays and it was very quiet when we were there. Lo Bistrot, directly opposite Crest lift looks popular with locals. Lots of pub type things such as Hotel Breitorn where you can sit and drink beer and have a chat. Let us know how you go. I hope you enjoy it and I haven't pumped it up too much. |
