When can I start?
Perhaps I should look at booking my holidays BEFORE drinking a bottle of red.

I missed the bit where it said flights and transfers were not included.

Can someone please delete this useless thread...thanks Bandit...
Just seen this offer on GroupOn....seems like a really good deal.

Has anyone been to this area, and is it any good? I'm tempted for the price!

Yeppers...they do assessments first thing in the morning, where they get you to ski down a nursery slope a couple of times and then split you off into little (well, at least 10 others!) groups. If you find that the group is going too fast or slow, you can always move up or down,

The instruction in Soldeu is pretty good. This year, my 11 year old progressed from a timid blue run skiier to a gungho (and accomplished) red run skiier.
Dave - don't get me wrong but I preferred the skiing over in Auffach. Better snow and some nice off piste.

Will - the blues are very easy and a couple of the reds would be blues in most other resorts. Trust me when I say this, that Niederau is, without a doubt, a perfect resort for small children and nervous skiiers. The ski schools will bend over backwards to accommodate even the most timid skiier (I should know, my wife is one) and they go out of their way to ensure that their students enjoy themselves.

Dave Mac is the resident Niederau expert. He knows just about everything about the place.

Oh, and Tony H is also another Niederau fan-boy.
I took my lot to Niederau on our first 'family ski holiday'. Wife and two kids (11 & 7) were all absolute beginners. It's a great little resort with a fantastic ski school (the Reds, not the Blues!) and the slopes are perfect for first timers and timid skiiers.

For you, there isn't a lot really. I spent most of my day skiing the few reds and odd black in Niederau and then hopping over to Auffach (5 mins on free bus) to do the more challenging runs over there. However, the whole point of the trip was that I skiied with the family also and in this respect, Niederau ticked all the boxes for me.

Now that the family have been twice since, would be go back there again? Probably not but perhaps the wife and I will go back when we hit our 60's.

Cheap skiing, decent apres ski and a mountain accessible by all? Look no further than Soll (Austria) or Soldeu (Andorra).
'ello all...

I've crawled out from under my rock now that I'm planning ahead to the forthcoming season.

Was originally going to do Austria this year (Solden or Schladming) but we have now been invited out to visit some friends who live in Virginia. Probably go out there during Feb.

I've googled ski resorts in the near vicinity and there are quite a few small resorts.

Just wondered if any J2skiers have skiied in Virginia and if it's any good.
