New Year is bigger in Austria than Xmas so yes pre book, even though Ive been to Soll last 3 years I cannot help as we were half board!!
If it looks if its going to be booked out then a lengthy well deserved proper lunch would appear to be the order of the day at one of the marvelous mountain eating houses. |

Been there the last 3 years look up Dave' Sports which is in town. As its away from the gondolla its far cheaper than others. Quality equipment so much so alot of our group left their owns skis at home when we returned. Book on line before you go and you will get 10% off. Any questions about location etc PM me any time. Put it this way we are struggling to find skihire for the same value in Saalbach for January 2013 :-(

Depends what you call challenging. Only been to Soll and although there is a fantastic range of skiing there is not an abundance of black runs. The ones they have at the top of the main Soll mountain (forget the name)is very very challenging, I have the bumps to prove it as it has over the past 2 years at some stage done me on each holiday. Although not a huge town the Apres is very good so much so we went 3 years in a row in January. This will depend on your age of course. Maybe not for the club going youth or those in their early 20s. That being said there were loads there who looked like they loved it.

Rocksy
Have a read back through the Soll V Mayrhofen and other similar threads where folk have given honest opinions. Late January is a good time for Austria hence we are heading to Saalback for the first time this season. Will comment on it after we have been but the reviews are good. You cannot go wrong with Soll and Schladming from my personal experience. |

Never did find out if the RAF are there when we are, we arrive 26th Jan.
It would appear we have our ski hire sorted. Feel free anyone to suggest must do slopes. We are a group that cope with most things but I think its fair to say a number of us tend to survive the harder steep black runs as opposed to skiing them properly. Like an Apres bar which is busy but not necessarily mobbed with live music any suggestions? Just trying to work out beer voucher supply, we have been fortunate in Soll the last 3 years to be paying E3.20 to E 3.80 for a large beer, appreciate it will be dearer in Saalbach but hope we are not talking silly prices!! |
