I had a quick look at this post, and decided that it would be quickly snipped.

Adding a bit more info. There are two train situations from Munich airport, both leaving about ten past alternate hours. The EC has only one change, at Munich Ost, and the charge is €35. After the change there are only two stops before Wörgl Hauptbahnhof. Time is 1hr 43min. The alternate train requires 2/3 changes, takes half an hour longer, and cost €30. For my 2/3 week January trips, I hire a car. This is because a buy a season pass for a larger area, Kitzbuhel Allstar, or Tirol. That allows me to ski for a day in resorts that I would not choose to take a weeks holiday. (Eg, in January, among others, I skied all the runs in St Johann, in the one day.) The secret with car hire is to book well ahead. It is one purchase that rarely comes down in cost. By law, they now must include the cost of winter tyres in the hire price. I take out annual car hire excess insurance every year. |

The Vars course is fearsome. Second place was taken by Spain-based Brit, Jan Farrell, who set a new British record. This is a record once held by a near neighbour friend who learned to ski at Glenshee!

Just about every ski day, on the first and last runs.

Season ends for small and low villages are not determined by the village, but collectively, and effectively, by the T/Os. They decide when to terminate the flights, or connections. Auffach and Alpbach, which are both connected to Niederau continue for another week. When I was here for my seasons, the season end was always mid-April, and I never went home leaving a green mountain, the runs were always complete. Accountants run the world! |

Well I had planned to go to Glenshee today, but did a rethink. So I am on the early morning tomorrow, (Friday), flight into Munich, arrive Niederau in time to catch the Gondola. Then a couple of days skiing, 5.30pm train to Munich on Sunday, and late flight back to Edinburgh.
Sunday is Saisonendetag, the last day of the season. It is a unique day ~ the tourists have all gone home, the Gondola is free, a large number of locals go up to the top, so will have a mixed day of skiing and chatting to friends. There are a couple of local bands turn up ~ I joined in one a few years back! Great snow, especially in the mornings, and hot, hot weather! And, travelling light, 8.5kgm, inc boots and painting gear! |

We have been to Zermatt several times during the winter, and in summer. We have not viewed it as expensive, especially when compared with much of France, on a like to like basis. I have been consistent in saying that Zermatt is a "must visit" place to go to, such is the draw of the Matterhorn. A couple of weeks back, I was skiing under the North face of the Eiger, (and did a sketch). It was a powerful place to be, and I found myself comparing with skiing under the Matterhorn. |

No worries, Billip, that should have read "my old sallopettes" I'm sure there is money in someone designing "goulash soup-coloured" sallos.... |
