By the way, have you got the number of TheWindGod?
Dear TheSnowGod,

As a skier who lives his life by the church (I'm not religious, I just live opposite a church - no really. Bell practice on Tuesday nights are a nightmare!), I am deeply touched by your attention to this matter.

I appreciate it's a very busy period for you with requests from all over northern hemisphere.

I'm very much looking forward to taking delivery of the order, infact looking at the Tignes webcam it appears Mr F.Big-Cloud has parked his delivery vehicle right in front of the camera. Perhaps if you could have a word. No snow on the webcam please.

Many Thanks

Mr Ellistine
Livigno...to ski or not to ski?

I had my second ever skiing holiday in Livigno 3 years ago. It was a good holiday but to be honest it's amazing how little I remember about it. I think I was concentrating too much on learning to ski!

One of my customers stayed in Livigno over Christmas last year and are doing the same again this year so it can't be all bad.

Livigno itself is a very long and narrow town stretched out along a mostly pedestrianised street. You can ski the extensive hills along either side of the town. I remember it being very cold (-20 or so). Having said that, it can feel colder in the UK with our cold damp weather in the winter.

Hello Andrew,

I get back from Mayrhofen on the 19th of Jan. Probably not enough time to give you the low down when I get back. Haven't been there myself yet but i've not heard too many negative comments on the place. I have heard however that you should aim to get up early to beat the queues to the gondolas.
What are your winter goals?

Or as my girlfriend would have it 'Lay of the skiing until the Gluhwein has finished' :shock:

Some people have very limited dorsiflexion (the ability to flex there ankle joint forward). My girlfriend's is very poor. She simply can not flex the ankle forward very far before her heels start to lift.

There's a good way of testing your dorsiflexion here;

http://www.warrensmith-skiacademy.com/ski_biomechanics-physiology_about-ski-biomechanics.htm - See part 2.

I can manage about 30cm of drop where as my girlfriend can only manage about 8cm. You can do exercises to help improve the amount of flex but getting her to do them is another matter!
