This winter, my main trip is likely to be with someone who is returning to skiing after quite a few years so I'd be interested in suggestions for a resort that is good for mixed abilities, has a reasonable (preferably British-run) ski school, and is convenient for lunchtime meet-ups etc.
I thought about Morzine, but its low altitude makes March a little risky, and I'm not really keen to return to France just yet. Any thoughts would be most welcome. |

When I'm on holiday, the last thing I'd be interested would be a spreadsheet - those things are for the workaday, boring, routine aspects of life. Ski holidays are for forgetting about such things and enjoying yourself.

Thank you, Tony. Decent travel insurance permits you to buy or hire the necessities to enjoy your holiday and survive until the bag turns up.

I'm with Tony H on this. I have a large ski holdall from Snow + Rock which has separate compartments for boots, so no room for other kit is lost. In the hold they go and no worries over hand luggage etc. Last year, this large bag including boots plus skis was well inside the EasyJet allowance of 32kg.
If it were to be delayed or go missing in transit, I'm up the shute anyway and hiring or buying some new boots would go alongside begging, stealing or borrowing a complete set of kit. |

Have not booked yet - but have my choice for the main trip in March narrowed down to:
Bacqueira in Spain, Madonna Di Campiglio or possibly Les Sybelles. Going to spend a day doing a bit more research and talking to operators etc at one of the ski shows so that list could well change! |

Everywhere in Engelberg is miles from the pistes (but I still love it!)
There are buses that go all over the town in all different directions and link the furthest areas with the two main lift stations at Titlis and Brunni. Most routes run via the railway station in the middle of town. The buses are colour-coded and the timetables are on the back of the piste map. All very Swiss and efficient...and free of charge. |

Murren - the backdrop of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau takes some beating added to the Schilthorn, plus a really attractive village.
And I like the 360 degree panorama from the Weisshorn at Arosa - magnificent - plus the journey from Chur railway station to Arosa is something to behold. Last season, I found the views from the Big 3 viewing points above Solden to be breathtaking. I could go on... |
