Very perceptive, Penelope. Towards the end of my first season, I was offered a summer job, working at my friend Herbert's mountain farm.I respectfully declined, figuring that I would generate more income as a contract engineering designer in one week, than I would earn in a whole summer working in the Alm.
Fast forward to last winter when I caught up with a fellow instructor from my time, he now spends his summer doing exactly what I was offered. His wife visits him at weekends. Now then.... |

I don't agree that lifties are concerned if you are carrying skis. Because I elect to stay at one end of the village, I carry skis up a drag lift, and ski down to the village, dropping them at the service shop. Later, I pick them up from the service shop, take them up the Gondel, and ski home.

I was there this season, and I can confirm the whole Jungfrau mountain infrastructure was really good. Not cheap, but well worth investing in the cost of travel up through the inside of the Eiger.
The whole area skiing is really good, Grindlewald, Wengen, Murren, great run on the Lauberhorn. Intend to write up some info when I can get time. |

ADMIN! Following on from the winter olympics,I couldn't stand the suspense. Unless, of course, great emphasis was placed on the not word..... |

I respectfully suggest that these are not hotel prices but either pension or apartment prices. I pay less than this, but have to switch the kettle on myself. (Actually, not true, this is woman's work...) |

Not usually a fan of show off vids, but this is a group of mates, doing it. Really good vid.
And nope, I could not spot you, Admin. Had someone been skiing close to you, I might have recognised your evasion technique...... |

I have been skiing for almost 50 years. When I worked for the ski school, my boss, the head instructor, would confidently state, on a Monday morning, that he had seen three crows, flying upside down, east to west. This was the sign, that it would snow on Wednesday, at 10.00am.
Sure enough, at 9.59am, on the Wednesday, small flakes started, rapidly building up. Unfortunately, my boss retired, and I had to evolve my own method. I have already posted this method in November 2008 ~ "It's actually very easy. You look up your resort report on J2ski, and then cross check with the local tourist office web site forecast. They are never the same so add them and divide by two to get the mean. Then Multiply by two, and separately divide by two. Write both results down. Also, timeshift by two days in each direction. And there you have it." This model has now been adopted by most agencies in Austria and Switzerland. France and Italy have now both devoted resources in investigation teams. Bulgaria has yet to respond. |

Wow, that would make me either 120 or 160 years old! Even Bandit only had me at 102 years old, and that was 4 years ago! It is a bit odd, skiing with instructors that I used to work with, all still going, still skiing the mountain at pretty much the same speed as when we were working together. Many of us passing through the same age milestone within 6 months of each other. |
