Crass
Disrepectful
Unnacceptable

You absolutely disgust me Brucie - how can you make a flippant comment about a tragedy like this? "A fashion accessory"???? We are not talking about Hermes scarves you muppet

I call it the "Gondola" technique - lessons are available :)

I'll not only sign up for your lessons but subscribe to your newsletter too!

First thing that come to mind after I hear the word "mogul" is "Donald Trump" and that should be enough to put anyone off.....
Word of the day award to BB for "postulated"

I don't consider anywhere low for all the reasons above

If I was booking late then that would be fine but, for various reasons, we book early so high/snow sure is top of list. 1m base in Courchevel and 2m on top now for my trip in 2 weeks time but that's a resort that's higher than some places peak height. Yes you pay a premium in 3V, EK etc but for me its VFM if compared to going somewhere cheaper that has a smaller domain before you start and then have that reduced further by lack of snow

Few years ago went to Kitzbuhel at end of Jan and was skiing on bald bits at the bottom of the Horn. This year they have greenlit the Hannenkahm races but its not sure to be on the Streif.... Damn shame as I loved the resort but its just too low to gamble on if you're booking in advance

Clearly you CAN have great weeks anywhere at any time but its a calculated gamble going low early in the season

Was discussing this kind of issue with a mate the other day and, similarly to BB's postulation, we agreed that the Rockies are going to get more attractive and, probably as a result, therefore more expensive

Jeez; looking at the piste map, there are five pistes named Bellecombes. Bellecombes 2 is a Blue that goes left from the top of the chair, Bellecombes 5 is the Black to the right. Poor vis, fading light at 4pm, steamy goggles... mistake black for blue (assuming it wasn't clearly marked closed with a barrier), right name, wrong piste? :(

Ive never been to L2A so no first hand experience but looking at the map (a macabre thing to do at this time I accept but I think we are all trying to understand "why") I can totally see how the scenario that Adders outlines above could have happened. If it is then its even more senseless a tragedy.

Hug your loved ones tight folks - its all too fleeting a time we have
Absolutely tragic and so senseless too. Santons is ALWAYS going to attract this kind of thing (depite being a blue - ahem)hence why it was close no doubt

My heart goes out to the families involved

PLEASE remember that NOTHING, not no fresh powder not nothing is worth this. Get on the gondola and go to the pub, not the closed piste and the mortuary
Very sad news

I'd echo what Adders says though - stay safe and take no risks. The mountains will be there tomorrow/next week/next year.....
great pics

The OK is one of the great runs of Europe I think - do-able by anyone bar a complete novice as its so wide for most of it but equally as challenging as you want it to be if you tackle it at speed and take an aggressive line

Have had a "moment" or two on the ice through the trees within sight of the finish before now....
