If only I had the holidays....
You need to look at the right webcams Snapzzz.... Some areas of Canada are still going strong

Where did you get your bargain North face jacket from?
North Wales isn't to far off and I can vouch for the surfing out of Abersoch and you also have plenty of outward bound activities in and around there!! Plus in my opinion its a beautiful part of the world...

I'd happily own a second home out that way since its a bit quieter than the Lakes.

As for Blackpool its not all that bad Paralytic... I was once a "local" and my parents still live that way. Bleckpool is great for kids in relation to the Sandcastle Waterpark, the obvious Pleasure Beach and the piers although they aren't the same as they were in my day...

That said I would only use Blackpool as the last resort rainy day option as there is too much to do and see in and around the Lakes and a bit of rain wouldn't put me off going up into those hills 8)

There are 101 places in the Lake District that you can do any sort of outward bound activity you can think of so I suppose it depends on what you fancy and what your daughter is into.

I can recommend Grizedale Forest for a day or two of fun. I have done both their orienteering course and a couple of the mountain biking trails and can recommend them for kids. They have a website but it doesn't have volumes of information I'm afraid. They also have a Go Ape course which is great and your daughter is old enough to do although she has to be 1.4m tall.... Check out http://www.goape.co.uk/

Also have a look at these people they do all types activities in and around the Lakes: http://www.riverdeepmountainhigh.co.uk/

The Lakes would get my vote but only because I'm not very familiar with the Glencoe area although that said it is somewhere I want to go and explore its just not as close to home for me....

Ps I might as well add P&O and Hertz to my list of boycotted companies

Wickers I'm surprised you are able to go on holiday or do anything with the amount companies that are probably on your list

I don't know anyone that got stranded abroad but have at least 5 friends who haven't been able to go on holiday over the past week and you have to feel sorry for a girl in our office who couldn't go on her honeymoon at the weekend.

My jackets and sallos have all been washed with normal washing detergent and they all remain waterproof.... three years and running!

I do put them in on the temperature written on the label and hang them out to dry but no issues to date.
I have to agree with Ally you never have any guarantees at anytime of the year about the weather (a bit like the weather here in the UK!). In fact at Easter this year one weekend I was skiing in -17 and the other weekend it was +24!!
Hi Silverflora

Welcome back and I'm glad to see you haven't been put off posting on here!!

Sounds like you had a mixed result on the holiday but I'm glad to see it hasn't put you off skiing again next year.

Sounds like ESF lived upto their reputation but I'm glad to hear you gave a private lesson a try. You will often find that you will learn a lot more and faster when in a one on one situation as the instruction is aimed directly at you rather than generically at a group!

I can understand that you were in a horrible position when coming down the chairlift with no-one around to copy or ask. When you left your skis did you leave them in a rack with other skis or where they on their own? However regardless of this its good news that you didn't have to pay for them. Did they give you a reason?
