Hi Everybody,
My ski jacket got very dirty on my last ski holiday, and I kept putting off washing it in case I wrecked it and it lost its breathability and waterproofing.
However, I have finally done it. I bought Peter Storm's 'clothing cleaner wash-in', which you add to the wash instead of the normal washing powder/liquid. It cost £3-99 for a small bottle of it (300mls). It is specially designed for 'technical' clothing - like gore-tex etc. I dried my jacket afterwards in the airing cupboard, and it seems to be fine now. It is nice and clean and looks as though it is still waterproof.
Has anyone else used this product or anything similar?

"tech-wash" is pretty good, they do a wash in one and a re-waterproofing one

Thanks Rossyhead,
Is that the Nikwax one you mean?
I used the Nikwax 'TX.Direct spray-on' on my daughter's waterproof jacket, and it looked a bit like copydex, but after it dried you couldn't see any marks or anything. But I don't know if it made her jacket waterproof again because it didn't rain on her 4 day Duke of Edinburgh hike.
The Peter Storm washing stuff I used on my ski jacket is supposed to clean whilst maintaining the water repellant and breathability properties of the fabric. But it doesn't say it will re-waterproof it, if it needs it. But it looks like it is still waterproof. Maybe I should put the jacket on and go and stand in the shower to test it

I have managed to get some kind of oil mark on the front of my ski jacket. Any of the aforementioned preparations good for removing oil stains?

Hi Dave,
I think it may have been oil that dirtied my jacket. I had my skis oiled instead of waxed on holiday and I think I must have got some of it on my jacket when I was carrying my skis. Anyway, the Peter Storm cleaner removed it all, and my jacket looks like new now.
However, I don't know if that cleaner would be any good at removing thick black oil, for example. What sort of oil have you got on your ski jacket?

It does look like engine/machine oil, but not thick black stuff, as in old engine oil.
