Andorra doesn't sound like a bad shout because reasonable skiing, not expensive and mostly native English speaking instructors. Have lessons while you are there. Go for a chalet or hotel (ie not self catered) if you are a beginner because you won't want to be buying food and cooking at the end of the day.

Ian, that's a good call. Never been summer skiing, but it's supposed to be ok if you are working on technique. Apparently people tend to be disappointed if they expect summer skiing to be a skiing holiday ie a holiday in which all you do is ski.

Have a look at Risoul. Lots of blues and reds. Trips to Vars possible. Nursery area near bottom of lifts. Or L2A? Good nursery slopes there. Do not suffer from numpties doing Mach 2 like in ADH where the green runs are run-offs for the blacks/reds.

I don't think any mainstream UK TOs are going to Risoul this year. Crystal seem to have dropped Risoul, but are still going to Vars (the other Foret Blanche resort oin t'other side of the mountain).

There's not a great deal open in L2A in the summer and what is open is not very challenging AFAIR. Try going early in the summer because the best summer run (Signal) will probably still be open. Signal will shut before the end of the summer, I think. Check out the archived snow reports on Easiski's website to get an idea of when Signal shuts. Also, Easiski (Charlotte) may be free for tuition (I hear that she is very good). There are other glaciers open in the summer - Tignes, Stubai glacier, possibly Cervinia, but I get the impression that it's not a skiing holiday (more like a holiday with some skiing, if that makes sense). |
