I am not aware of any companies still making them. Any 'new' ones for sale will be very old stock.

Is it actually faster? If it was surely WC racers would be doing it to the line. Maybe it is a style thing.

I would be impressed if anyone could make the judgment with any accuracy. My perception is that it would definitely be less than 5 seconds.

IME Snow-Forecast often has errors and inconsistencies. It often happens when the forecast is changing so just keep an eye on it. J2ski has forecasting as well.

If you don't already own boots it is generally accepted that these should be the first purchase. You can hire/rent the latest skis but rental boots are nothing like your own. You will notice a fairly large difference in your skiing almost instantly.
