Intent on skiing New Year on Cairngorm, but being a young student and having not much in the way of money, my mate & I camped at Loch Morloch camp site, I think there were only two other tents there.

We each had two sleeping bags. After a week of this life, we packed, and struck camp, first removing the tent poles. The tent moved not one inch. It was frozen into position, and was loaded onto the roof rack as it was.

And you try telling that to the young folks of today.....

Emma, welcome to J2ski.

I get to be very fortunate in that my birthday always falls in January, and I celebrate it in the Bichlwirt, Niederau. My ski buddy Mel, always gives me a little pressy. Unfortunately for Mel, I don't know when his birthday is, cos it ain't in the ski season, and that's the only time we meet up.

Coming back to your issue. What about a practical solution ~ time shift your b/d ski celebration to a couple of weeks earlier. All the resorts are open, there are heaps of deals, probably half of the Easter price.

How will you justify the timeshift? Easy. Set up a minimum of four birthday celebrations, maybe five. Do them with old friends, workmates, old schoolmates, relatives, ski friends. You will be so busy, you have to space out the events....

Thank you all for the good wishes. I have to say, that the good lady is very stoical, and bites her tongue when she sees the standard of my cleaning!

We had skiing friends in tonight, and I knocked up Wienerschnitzel and kummelkartoffel. Hey, how Austrian is that!

The second guide dog left us yesterday for advanced training, so the w/load is significantly reduced, no one hour walks for a while. The third pup is a Golden Retriever ball of fluff.

Yep the leg break is a bit of a bummer. It means I will have to carry my own skis

Sorry I'm late Laydees, have been doing the ironing. As well as the hoovering, dishwasher, clothes washing, shopping, cooking, feeding, walking, and training the dogs, dusting, washing and dressing my OH, simply because....

She broke her lower fibula last Saturday, has a plaster cast, and is on crutches. We are just hoping there is no ligament damage.

Guy in our tennis club is building an extension to his house. He is a fairly cack-handed building organisor, six years to half build an extension, during which time I have completed four. Anyway, I digress. During the process, he discovered a bat roost in his existing loft.

Now then, if it twer you or me, we might have assisted the litle fellers, ie bats, and battesses into a new residence with all mod cons. He duly reported it to building control, and then had to pay £500 for a "Bat Report", together with "Bat monitoring", and "Bat Residence Recommendations". I assure you, I am not making this up.

He subsequently, had to build an approved external Bat residence, (which is what we all would have done in the first place.)

have never seen any real conflicts and the gentle banter (particularly Niederau vs Mayrhofen) is generally quite amusing!!

GeordieSki, I think we have firmly settled that skirmish strongly in favour of Niederau.........

Look out, duck, ooooh here's Toneeeeeee.

Thanks for the site info boredsurfin, and welcome.

Twas good that you stopped at just about the only relevant bit of thread. Unfortunately, I didn't realise that until I had read through a whole pile of turgid worms. The relevant stopping distances are quite revealing.

It also reminded me why I like to read the threads on J2ski, rather than elsewhere.
Vignettes

Great information here, can someone colate all the separate bits please?

Fine in Austria for driving on the autobahn without a vignette is 120 Euros.

As said previously, I never bother with a vignette since the motorway distance from Kufstein to Woergl is only 15km. It is only a further 15km from Woergl to the Zillertal turn off. The loss in speed is somewhat mitigated since the main road distances for both legs is only 14km. The main reason that I go by old road is because it passes through or by interesting villages, and my Edinburgh~Munich flights allow road travel in daylight.

I guess the journey up the Ziller valley is more of a time issue, you have 29km, we have only 7km from Woergl to Niederau.

Hmm, so that makes it 7+14+29 = 50km Mahrhofen to Niederau....
