Lovely mountaineer pictures Ise. Evoked memories of looking at the low cloud views with the Kitzbuehler Alpen and WildKaiser projecting through.

Trencher, that's got to be a Minesota joke, converted to Wales?

In the US there is some monitoring of ground temps, but nothing as comprehensively as the way water is monitored.

Trencher, who needs that micro-level of information? (that on the nrcs site)

If there is a need for it, they have done it well.

Good post, good answers.

This post clearly demonstrates one of the best aspects of J2ski ~~ Someone needs answers to a clearly defined issue, and gets them.

Twoshorts, at this stage, the important thing is the ground temperature. If the ground is cold, and then when the temp drops, and it starts to snow, the snow will hold.

Also, if the ground is cold, the artificial now will hold, either direct, or in storage.

Now then, you have started me thinking. Is there a web site that might show ground temps in the alps......??

Occasionall used to take a 5 string banjo to Niederau. Stood the banjo vertically in the centre of the rucsac, and wrapped clothing around, hence fully protected.

Or so I thought.

At Glasgow Airport, 2.00am, waiting for baggage to arrive at the carousel, I had a squint through the curtain. A baggage handler was stood on top of the trolley, piled high, throwing the bags off the top, on to the ground.

Result, when I got home, one broken Clifford Essex, neck snapped in two.
