People are desperately checking snow forecasts every time they log on to computers.

The previous two winters snowfall lasted days. It just kept snowing. Let's see how long this snowfall will last and how much snow it will actually bring. A single day event will hardly be a season-changer but at the moment any snow would be nice.

Dry and sunny like everywhere else in the Alps currently. Whether it will change by February remains to be seen. But it's high and has decent snow-making so skiing should be ok.

At least it will be quieter on slopes. If weather doesn't change (at the moment there is very little confidence that it will) pack hiking boots. Skiing the same limited icy runs over and over again can be frustrating, so go hiking every other day and you will be happy about this beautiful weather.

It's getting desperate really. I am on my 2-week ski break, and skied just once. Our mate arrived for his ski break so I went up with him on his first day. Skied 6 hours straight but since then I just hiked and skinned uphill and then only skied as far as the nearest lift I could download from. It's so not worth it. Sheets of ice and after midday huge moguls of man-made snow with way too many people. Last Saturday was relatively quiet at least. Weather is beautiful though and many summer hikes are still mostly clear so we are making the best out of it. I am half-resolved to the idea that it will continue like that for many more weeks. There might be be some localized intrusions of storms but they won't linger for long enough to make a lasting difference. I hope I am wrong, but we haven't had a truly bad season for some time. Last season was OK, considering it started so late.

Hurting in which way? Knee strengthening exercises will probably help, but I would have the problem diagnosed first. I have a particular knee problem and I know definitely there are certain knee strengthening exercises that involve movements and positions that I must avoid, if I don't want to make my problem worse. If I had been just blindly doing exercises from YouTube, this is what would have happened. The good news it's mostly all about engaging the correct muscles and can often be achieved in different ways as long as you know what to look for and what to avoid.
And as above, if you skied for 2 weeks that's a lot of skiing. Many knees will be hurting after that. But have it looked at by a doctor if it bothers you. |

You still have time until your holidays. People travelling to the Alps now unless they go to Aosta are less lucky: they don't even have hope and they will be there when the slopes are the busiest. Hopefully this massive high pressure system will move after New Year, Alps really need snow in January.

Yeah, some areas got lucky, but everywhere else is doesn't look too good. It was a very localized storm, what is needed is a large system from Atlantic that would blast through this high pressure and dump a meter of snow. Fingers crossed it stays cold enough; Christmas Day is expected to be warm, hopefully it won't last.
