So where are the ski bargains

French school holidays cover most of February, some running up until 7th March.

My parents were looking at last minute deals next week for half term, and found NOTHING. Plenty of accomodation, but no flights available, so only suitable for those willing to drive.

I first went Easter 1993 (I think!) to Zell Am See, aged 13.

It was rubbish! Very little snow, had to queue for hours to take the funicular train at Kaprun to get to the glacier, and the instructor was an absolute poser who obviously didn't want to teach a beginners group!! He was called Wolfgang, and was very cute though! :o

It took me several years to go again after the first experience, but 17 years later, and I'm going for my 9th time in March.

Ski Carriage

Hello again everyone.

I'm tempted to buy myself a pair of skis this year rather than paying £100+ to hire a pair.

The airline says I can pay £30 for carriage of a single pair of skis with a maximum weight of 6kg. Does anyone know how much skis weigh approximately (they'll probably be 160s), and if you can get away with putting a pair of skis and a snowboard in one bag, thus only paying the carriage fee once?

I suppose the only downside would be that if they "lost" the bag, I could only only claim the cost of 1 pair from them.
SKI INSURANCE

I just use Compare the Market for ski insurance, and use one that gives me cover for whatever I need i.e. cancellations, loss/theft of money etc...

I thought you were supposed to have some sort of liability insurance when on the piste? i.e. incase you cause an accident.
Flight Cancelation/compensation

Depends who your airline was.

I had a 12 hour delay with Easyjet last year, who thought a cup of coffee and a croissant was suffient, and refused to give us a penny in compensation. I gave up after 3 letters and multiple emails. Useless company who will never have my custom again.

The year before I had a 9 hour delay with Thomson, but they gave us plenty of drinks and food vouchers, and made sure no one incurred any extra parking charges.

Sometimes it can be more hassle that it's worth, and like trying to get blood out of a stone!

The T&Cs only seem to appear when you actually try and buy the lift pass online, and go through to the payment bit! You don't seem to get the option to view them before then!

I find most resorts manage to keep a couple of lifts open in bad weather so they don't have to refund any lift passes.

Hello.

I've just looked on the meribel web page, and the t&cs of the lift pass state:

"During the validity of the transport title, the lift pass is neither transmissible, nor transferable. It cannot be lent to a third person whether the loan be free or subject to cost."

Do the lift passes not have a photo on?

Rather than doing morning and afternoon, would it not just be easier to alternate days, which would eliminate the child swapping saga, and no foot pass would be required?
