Is that the itinerary down to Tortin - under the gondola? The traverse is evil!

I tend to go high myself for the reasons you outline - that said I went to Kitzbuhel one year without thinking about altitude (It's got a classic downhill run - it must have snow right?) and suffered with runs down into town (though on top is high enough).

Kitz town is only around 900m - what other "great classic" resorts are low too but people dont necessarily think of the altitude because they are famous names?

The big Tour Operators usually have their "preview" brochure out before the end of the current season - you'll certainly be able to find a brochure by end March

I've never skiied Canada so cant help directly but have looked at a few things there:

You need to decide if the "Village" type resort (that we're all used to in Europe) is important with ski in ski out a possibility from accomodation and slopes coming down into the town.

If this is your thing then Whistler and Tremblant look best bets - Bannf / Lake Lousie etc have more need of buses at start and end of the day

Cheers

Same issue here - done nonetheless!

Thought it would get a heart sink for a mo :D :D :D

Current Snow Depths:

Top: 190cm
Bottom: 135cm

Above seasonal average - I think that will be ok ;)

We had less than that 3rd week of Jan last year and apart from the odd bald black run they kept everything open. You're in for a great trip

Yes, it's pretty common in the US for people ride up with the bar up (sorta like not wearing a helmet in Europe) At the hundreds of small ski areas where the lifts seldom get more than twenty feet from the deck, it is common for there to be no safety bar on the chairs. Never heard of people worrying about getting stuck with the bar down.

dont mention the H word.....

but seriously - if its common for people not to put bars down then that may have been a factor in this incident?
