La Rosiere v Montchavin

Hi,

Can only comment on La Rosiere i am afraid, it is a great intermdiate area, with some wide open slopes which are great for flattering your skiing, and the odd technical piste, the tougher skiing i would say is on the La Thuile side.

On the La Thuile side the upper slopes are very good also, with the runs down into La Thuile itself more challenging towards the bottom, there is also an excellent restaurant La Riondet which is located by the side of the main piste into La thuile(on the upper part, which is a road in summer).

As for the "cold" this is more likely to affect you when travelling back to La Rosiere from La Thuile on the last chair over the ridge, due to La Rosiere being at the centre of three combining valley's it can be hit by two different weather systems at once.it can be a beautiful sunny day on one side, but as you get to the ridge there can be a wall of cloud and on the otherside you can have a complete change of weather with strong winds and good drop in temperaure, especially around late afternoon.

The trip over the ridge can be bitingly cold,so would advise a good warm hat which you can pull down over your ears....i sometimes take a woolen hat that doubles up as a balaclava when i'm going and know the weather is changeable(the balaclava also helps with the second job :D :D).

In saying all this though the combined resorts of La Rosiere and La Thuile are a real gem,and being in the location it is can have some excellent snowfall's,you should just keep an eye on the snow forecasts when they start to come out and use them to help you decide where to go.

Hope some of this is helpfull

:DHi,

The smell of freezing cold , crisp air and diesel.....reminds me of a week in Chamonx when I had the mother of all sore throats ...

....or again standing outside on a crisp clear evening with a wood fire in the area....transports me back to BsM, if I stand outside my back door at home on a cold clear night also and look up at the stars.....i can imagine the same stars but i'm looking out over my veranda up at Les Arcs and La Rosiere.

The smell of melted cheese......just reminds me to change my socks..... :( :(

.....We had a summer, bugger why didn't they tell us?

Mind you the Met Office reckon it will be a mild winter, so judging on past forecasts and predictions (such as the BbQ summer) the comming season should be a blinder

Luvely Jubbly :D :D

OUCH! :(

That doesn't look good....was the dog ok, it might need some antibiotics.....

We can get some of the boys to go round if you want?,animals are ok if they are kept under control if not they're a damn liability, mind you a friend of mine took in a stray that chased cyclists, joggers, posties and just about anything else he could sink his teeth into...even had the same jogger twice once, Jake chased him and bit him on the arse, and then had him again a couple of days later in another park, my mate decided to walk him in a different park but unfortunately the jogger had had the same idea :(.

Hope it heals ok.....if only you had been wearing ski boots???

.....I hope so, I have a feeling it will be a good season as my itch hs started to tingle :D :D

As it's an El Nino year when the cold air moves further south and hopfully collides with the moist Atlantic air I am very optimistic we will enjoy plenty of the white stuff, have been looking at the forecasts for my local area around BsM and the weather is set to drop to around -7oC by the weekend with a chance of snow.

If we can get the season started off with good dumps of snow early on to build u a good base and then have temperaures that stay low we will be on to a winner :D.....it's time for the yearly sacrifice of the furry wurthers original thats been in my car door pocket all year :(and to give praise to the snow gods....make it deep, make it white....and keep it comming all the night :D

.....I think the people with the white coats are at the door!!
