Ski gloves

Good question Tony, and from my point of view timely, since I finished last season with gaffa tape holding the thumb sections together, rather like Pavel's. These gloves lasted 5/6 years, mebbe 30 weeks skiing. That works out at a £/year. Outrageous.

One of my criteria is that my gloves form part of my safety set-up. I have one dodgy knee that will occasionally spike, and to resolve, reliable gloves and sticks are required.

I have bought a £19 pair from TK, just as spares, since my sons have thieved my other spares. The new pair would be useless for constant use.

So for a specification:

1) Gloves need to be waterproof, and to be breathable material.

2) Stitching must be double or treble.

3) Next, the palm area must be durable, and non-slip. So preferably patterned leather or HD man made patterned material.

4) For control, gloves not mitts.

5) A wrist closer strap, normally this is pull and velcro.

6) Minimum 2"-3" coverage beyond the wrist, and over the cuff of your jacket. So....when you are choosing gloves, wear your ski jacket.

7) If you don't have a LH arm/chest pocket in your ski jacket, or wear a ski swatch, then a LH glove pocket for the lift pass.

8) Insulation, I have always found that thinsulate is fine.

9) Red.

10) Never look at the brand, if it meets the specification. There is no reason to.

11) No more than £30, top whack. Anything above this signifies rich daddy. If you pay more than this, it just encourages the bu..ers to put up prices. Vive la revolution.

12) No little clippy bits that fasten the glovy things together. If you insist on this, then get pink gloves.

What colours are in this season?

Red basque, black panties, silver suspender belt, black nylon stockings, fetching black rear entry ski boots.

Red anorak with white horizontal stripe, black salos, red gloves, hiding the nail polish, mixed colour hat, inscribed "DAVE MAC", (just in case I forget my name)

High heeled bindings, pointed skis.

What do you put in your ski bag

This is an extract from Crystals Ts & Cs:

Carriage of skis, snowboards and boots by air
With a growing number of skiers and snowboarders taking their own equipment on holiday, charter airlines are finding it increasingly difficult to cope with the extra weight and handling of these items. This has increased the risk of luggage being off-loaded from aircraft. In common with all other major winter sports operators, we have therefore introduced a system to improve the reliability of ski/snowboard carriage, at a cost of £30 per pair of skis/snowboard carried (max 6kgs per £15 charge made).

The ski & snowboard bag must contain the pair of skis or snowboard ONLY and weigh no more than 6kgs. Boot bags count towards your overall weight limit on all flights, as do skis on some scheduled flights
If you wish to have skis or snowboards added to your booking, these must be registered at the time of booking and if they should fail to arrive on your flight, the charge will be refunded and skis forwarded to you in resort free of charge. If you do not pre-book your skis, there is no guarantee that they will be carried, but if accepted, a minimum £40 charge will be levied at the check-in desk by appointed Crystal reps. This charge does not apply to scheduled airlines, unless operating as a charter, where ski equipment may be included in the total baggage allowance and additional charges may be levied if this is exceeded.

As I read this, in the first para, the charge is £30 per pair of skis, and this would allow 12kgs. The second para states the ski wght max as 6kgs.
