I sympathise - thankfully The Lout is post school now, but ski hols in particularly were always very expensive.
I would have thought that if anyone is stuck with half-term and knows, absolutely knows that they have to have their ski then booking really early must be the best way.
I do remember there were some very attractive early offers back before the summer. Free lift passes, free ski hire, good discounts were all on offer. Free lift passes alone to one of the bigger resorts will save £500 for a couple.

Really hope you and the new MrsMattSki_Score have the most wonderful time.
I predict that you will look in wonder at the grass and flowers as spring arrives down in the valley - especially if you don't get down to Aime or Moutiers very often.
Don't forget us poor souls restricted to a week or two.

Brooksy was still skiing as was your husband and others. When AllyG , CatP and I came off the hill at 4.30 you were ensconced with a virtually empty JUG of Vin Chaude next to you!!!!

Personally I wouldn't drive for a week, certainly not alone - too much time wasted being tired from the journey for me.

Also, and possibly more relevant. In my experience most of the good last minute offers are from people with unsold flights as well as rooms.
You may do better getting a package last minute.
As a sometimes solo traveller - the single supplement is a killer but I have grabbed good deals on this last minute in the past with tour operators.
