Swiss prices

Where to Ski and Snowboard have their Resort Price Index (RPI) these days

In it they rate the resort on fcators like: lift pass, private lessons, food, drink etc (not actually getting there)

They average these out and say that an RPI of 100 is average and thus anything less than 100 is "cheap" to ski in and more than 100 is "expensive"

The supposedly horrendous expensive French resorts of VDI and VT both score a flat 100 - everything that's in Switzerland scores more and then Canada and US more still. Austria and Italy generally less than 100

Of course this is a guide and slightly subjective but at least they've done all of the research

First hand experience here: Sauze is by far a better place to stay, more rustic and fun, good choice of places to eat and drink, and cheap as well. Sestriere is like a French resort, purpose built and practical but no soul to it.
Sestriere has better snow, its a bit higher but its defo not the highest resort in Italy. From Sauze you can ski or gondola over to Sestriere whatever the conditions (unless the pass is closed) and it only takes an hour from leaving Sauze to get there. Its good for a change of scene and some different slopes, including the famous Banchetta Olympic run.
Saizes lifts are fine, apart from the really old 2 man up from Sportinia mid station which is like something they made on Blue Peter.
Have a day out in Montgenevre and if the trip is offered to Serre Che, take it, its fantastic there.

Good bars:
Paddy McGintys for footy on tv and quizzes
Ghost for more chilled out apres near the Clotes lift
Scotch bar in the hotel nearest the Clotes piste

So much to choose from, a good place to stay. Dont be put off by any reports of it being like Ibiza on snow.

Scotch or Scots (as I thought it was called but willing to be corrected)is a great shout Tony - we used to have 3 large beers in there every day at the end of last run before then being unable to get off the high stools due to a mixture of alcohol and seized limbs!

The Village was good too with HUGE measures...

The lifts were slow but I know a lot has been spent

Was she the fit blond one rolling around in the snow in a bikini? God bless sky+ pause and rewind.

On the one hand I'm appalled by the BBC spending my license fee in this way - on the other I LOVED IT!!!!!
Boston or New York or even LA

I've skiied Killington and flew into Boston to do it. Its no Alpine village and you need a car (or hotel with bus) as the accommodation is strung out along the road.

Skiing is plentiful and varied - with some PROPER double black diamonds to test anyone as well as the huge, wide cruises that the US is famous for.

Weather in New England is the big problem - we had blazing sunshine, rain, fog and -20 temps at different times during our week

But thats New England in a nutshell for weather

Worth considering if you take into account the downsides as the skiing was great we felt

Just my two pence worth

Funnily enough Bandit I do try and tell the wife that - couple it with the slice of lemon in your pre dinner vodka and you can turn drinking into a healthy activity....
