I just read Admin Dave's post to the spammers, and I'm still quivering in my boots. You don't mess with Admin, I've skiied with him. If Dave says it's his patch of snow, then it is his patch of snow. Umless of course it's in Niederau. |

Trencher adds so much knowledge and quality to J2ski. I know we get a range of views on different issues, lots of newbies, lots of mid-skiers, a few "experts", even less "ancients", (that's me and two others )
Trencher has his strongly individual way of viewing skiing, and is not afraid to challenge other views. Sad to say, one or two people respond in an entirely personal way. That is negative, and sometimes hostile. I don't see why we cannot accomodate all views, in a positive way. Among the most experieced skiers on J2. who else has the courage to put videos of their skiing & boarding out to the public? Who else provides as much technical technique info? C'mon Trencher, get back to the fold. |

The Harfenwirt is a good location. They are a 5 min walk/one stop on the ski bus from the village centre. However, there is a beginner slope, with poma, just opposite the Harfenwirt, and the ski school should be able to get all the beginners on there.

jonG, have you actually skied with that ski school?
I guess I have to be careful here as I do not wish to render myself open to libel. How can I say this? There are two ski schools in Niederau. Schischule Wildschönau, email address given in the previous posting. This is the RED ski school. It has won awards, and is one of the highest rated schools in Tirol. I know most of the instructors. I used to work for them. I entrusted my own boys to them. Every instructor is trained. Then there is ski school Aktiv. This is the blue ski school. I have nothing to say about this ski school. Phew, think that sounds OK. |

As with the other posters, complete the turn.
Face down the hill. Keep your hands forward, sticks angled slightly back. Make sure you always keep you weight forward. On the balls of your feet, but putting the turn pressure on with the toes. If you spot a nice bit of terrain, use the change to assist the turn. If you get a sudden change in steepness, be confident to push your weight a bit more forward. This is helped if you are looking 2/3 turns ahead, as well as at the immediate turn. And, a good technique to learn is this. At the point just before you are ready to turn, move your knees one to one and a half inches in towards the hill. This sets the edges, and your forward speed will make you sink onto the ski, and you will slow down. Release the edges, and push the skis away, as you make the transition. This is worth practising, as it is especially useful when on a narrow steep piste. Piece of cake, innit? |

OK Jenno, will try to help you move forward here.
If keeping the family together is important, you can ask for that, and the school will try to accomodate. However, you will not be getting the best out of the learning investment. Why is that? Because everyone will develop at a different pace. Thus those developing more quickly will be held back by those developing more slowly. The ski school is very flexible, and efficient at moving people around so as to get the best for the skiers. I am pretty sure the 3 year old would be in kindergarten. I can't see the age of the other child. You could email your questions to the ski school, ski.schule@tirol.com I suspect they will just tell you to turn up, and they will sort it out on the day. Regarding yourself, you are right in your observation about how much you move forwards with a private lesson. The problem is what happens after that? I always suggest that you invest 3 years in ski school. Then do the privates, plus free skiing. Which hotel are you staying at? This could have a bearing on the school set-up. I am likely to miss your group by one or two weeks, as I plan to take some more time there in March. |

Oke doke Caron, will check out the lost property box again at the Kropfraderjochalm. I can now reveal why I was so keen to get the Wildschonau Snow and Boarder cap back from you. Bearing in mind my ski buddy's possible medical treatment, the cap arrived at Mel's house today. He was delighted, having spent two seasons trying to get one. (They are local lift company hats and are not available to the public.) I filled him in on the full history of the cap, including your part, and he says it is extra special now. Yeah ~ Result! And as regards the previous point, some of the wisest posters on J2 do seem to be numerically constrained. |
