Wow, Bandit writing on a Niederau site! Fantastic! Having said that, I have intentions to ski in Grimentz and Zinal. ~ And to thank the incumbents for introducing me to their ski places.
So, re my March trip, Rusty/Dave, I have a good idea where you will be at 4.30pm on Wed 4 March, cos I know where Jan & fam meet up. Only thing is, I cannot be sure to be there on time, but will contact Jan if I miss that time. If we don't meet up on Wed, will meet you at Gondola when Auhofmobile gets to ski slope on Thursday ~ will get the morning together. Amanda, you may yet be the new scary lady, although I think that the original one will still be there. I would not think too much about off piste. There are a few opportunities. The offpiste issue with Niederau is that once you get off the main runs, the mountain is made up of gorges, waterfalls, steep faces, cliffs, even steeper than cliffs, overhangs. It cetainly opens up opportunities. I do hope that I am not understating this. Are you in ski school or free skiing? I can certainly enlighten you on the 4 months prob. ~ Just do it. |

Hi Tom,
Depends how you look at your boarding. Niederau has a limited area. The three/four main runs offer some good challenges, generally much steeper than the Schiwelt. The difficulty for a boarder is the transition. The main run, (19) drops directly under the gondola, so there are no issues apart from the long schuss into base. However, there is a cross-over at the top, you have to get across by a slightly sloping path. Once across, both of the other main runs are great boarding runs. On the run across to the right, once there, you can feed in repeatedly by chairlift. There are a couple of good off-pistes that boarders can take advantage of, that remain difficult for skiers. There are a lot of boarders that use Niederau, and I guess I find that surprising because of the cross-overs. This may be that the place itself is attractive and friendly. Auffach is more lift friendly, you can access evrywhere. It is mainly above the tree-line. There is an all day ski bus service, and you get a bus card supplied by your accomodation. I arrive on 4 March, plan A is to ski the Thursday morning with Rustyinn, so if you are around..... |

Hi stigworth, If you click onto skiset at the top RH of the page you are on. Feed in Austria/Kitsbuehle, and your dates. The hire shop is given as Sport Noichl. You should Google this to find it's location relative to your accomodation or the lifts/ski school. You will see the costs given for skis lie between 77.6 Euro and 118.4 Euro for 6 days. You can compare this with the TO price. |

It doesn't announce itself, so I don't know the name. I run the Norton AV scan every day, but it isn't picking this up, my son reckons, there fore it must be in the register, or somewhere like that. Too complicated for me to go poking about. A series of envelopes start to appear on the bottom RH toolbar, and a Norton Window appears with heaps of info about how it is scanning and blocking the outgoing email. None of the emails appear to be going through Outlook Express. |

Was discussing boarding with Jan, a couple of weeks ago. He is an A1 skier, but is an inquistive sort. So he had hired boarding gear, gone up the gondola, boarded down the mountain, and taken the gear back. His verdict, ~ he said he felt claustraphobic. |

I do all our cooking too. I think that is the only downside for my OH, when I am away in Austria. So today, beautiful walk on the beach, wife and guide dog, with snow covered hills on the far side of the bay, followed by Spag. Boll., a quick visit to J2. Now I have to find a way to get rid of some evil virus that has camped on my computer, and attempts to send hundreds of emails out each week purporting to sell watches. My Norton stops them going out, but so far I haven't been able to eradicate the little begger. And it constantly interupts the screen. If I could ever catch the bum who did this, would take him to the top of the steepest run, and strap skis onto him..... |

Going up the Niederau two man chairlift, (as it was then), in the 70's. As we set off, the whole of the sky ahead turned green, and throughout our ride, we were treated to a multi-coloured sensational light show. As we got off the top, the sky cleared.
Also watched them in my back garden, 5/6 years ago, with all the family. Took heaps of photos, but nothing that picked up the beauty of the display. |

Wicked Wickers, I object strongly to that remark, withdraw immediately, or I'll...... Oh, Ian, why don't you hit Niederau in mid-March and we could go for a pint! Then we could talk about all the other J2skiers   In all seriousness, I'm sure the dust has settled on this. In my initial resonse I made an error in my support for Trencher of incorporating the comparitive, when the superlative would have been more correct. Someone else took Ise to task, but I didn't think Ise was being aggressive towards me, he was responding how he felt. Bandit took me to task, I admit that did scare me, but time is a great healer. I just love skiing. |
