SKI FREE: My very best class

Pavel,

This was a really good story. The question all must have on their minds is "Who was he?" Or what nationality was he? My first guess is that his initials are JC and he's from Quebec, Canada. I recall the man I have in mind is a golf enthusiast has is a Bill Clinton golfing buddy. I recall seeing news clips of him on the ski hills... but ....?

Ohhh, the fun skiing has brought you!

Pavel,

Your stories, identity and location are always safe with me.

Another story (experience) you may like to share is that of your means of getting that first run after a major snowfall (while in your college days). The way you related that story was so clear that I could feel the cold fresh air.

No snow here nor cold temperatures. Today reached 14C (at 7 PM it is still 9C) but should drop to 0C overnight.... however Monday has some wintery promise attached.

So skiing is still sometime off in NS.

SEX and FREE
Never noticed how the word SEX is "changed" by a letter or a prononciation and is found on cars, DVD, sporting goods etc...

Let us eliminate that one now! We will not we discuss this first term, thus my reputation will remain intact! I might later if Mike's lets me, speak however of one Spring skiing day when all came together and many "interesting" events occurred!

Now I'm confused... Pavel, if the story is the one I'm thinking of is the one where you and your sons were spending a great ski day ... then the others would love to hear about it  ...

I like Jan's application and Rossfra8's link. If the RCCL Voyager of the Seas can have an ice rink on the cruise ship, perhaps the Beneteau 57 has a ski tuning room aboard. Just one more way to "justify" a pampered cruise. :!: :-)

Maybe Pavel could lead the cruise just like the well known astronomers lead cruises chasing solar eclipses.

Life can be fun at times :!:

When did you start skiing

Jan 1 1999 at age 46. However there was a try at skiing on New Year's Day 1997; but that day ended in the hospital- and doesn't count. The first trip up the hill my wife twisted both knees on the sheer ice run off ramp. And I'm sure my finger prints are still in a lamp post at the edge of the trail I came down. It was a one run day !!! Our "friends" had bets on me being the injured one :!:

However the correct answer to "when did you start skiing" is: not soon enough!!

ellistine, I have a lot more catching up than you have .

Mike
Another great video thanks to ellistine !! I like the boot cam idea. Think what views we'd get if the guys in the following video used one. Have we all see this?: http://poorboyz.com/. It kind of fell from watching the boot cam video.

Our problem, freezywater, is that we assume too much; and it is through sites like this we learn the unexpected.

Last year our first snow was about the second week of December. It fouled up suppertime traffic because they didn't have the plows ready. Imagine that ... December and the plows weren't ready

That snow lasted a few days ... but that didn't matter as it was cold enough and Martock was making snow like crazy. Our first ski day was about Dec 23 even though they had opened the hill around the 10th with 1 trail ready. We know what that meant. Danger ... everyone keen to get going and everyone out of shape and no place for anyone to go. By new Year's Day they had about 2.5 trails open. Very little snow all winter but we were colder than normal. The man made snow was really good thanks to their new and improoved snow making equipment. The plus side was that there were no dangerous icy roads to prevent getting to the hill. The minus side (for the hill's owners) was without snow in the city people thought there was no snow at the hill - and the crowds failed to materialize. However, the plus side to that, for those that took the drive, was the reward of wide open spaces and almost no lift lines ... and really great conditions all winter. Into early March you would still meet people on the lift who were there that day for their first day of their season :!:

Oh, just can't wait - they will have the guns going soon.

Pavel should "post" a picture of a cannon at "his" local hill ... now that thing makes snow :!: I want one for my back yard.

Mike
Forgive my ignorance of what England receives in the way of snow ... but from what you describe here and my poor understanding, it sounds like it is almost a major snow fall you're getting right now. I expect we, in Canada, will see this on our late night news - when England get's snow - we usually do see it!!

IceGhost .. are you anywhere near Columbus and Clear Forks ??

freezywater,

MSA may add an additional camera or two to this set further into the season. At least they are skiing there now :!:.

In Nova Scotia, we will be lucky to be skiing by January. Here is the link to Ski Martock camera,- where most of my skiing takes place. This shows a small section of one run,"Expressway", - but they are ready for when the cold air strikes :!:!! http://www.martock.com/webcam.php

And this link is for Ski Wentworth - about 9o minutes from my home:
