Ski injury - update

Slamb, I feel your pain
I had a 100% acl tear in my right knee last april skiing and had the reconstruction opperation 8 weeks ago. I had the hamstring graft and even now I feel great. The reason I waited so long to get the job done is cos it gave me a great chance to build up my leg muscles pre op and started a new job so had to put it off for a while.
I went to the gym 4 or 5 days a week and uses a exercise bike for as long as was possible (about 30 to 40 mins) and this has made a huge difference to my recovery. I was off my crutches in 4 days and was walking without a limp in about 2 weeks. Now I can cycle for about 30 mins and the leg feels strong but I cant ski untill December. I know the graft takes a long time to bed in but I have a lot more movement even after 8 weeks than I have had in the last 8 months.
Its Sh1t but give yourself a while to let the swelling go down and get working on the leg muscles before you have the op.
Best of luck
Addiction!!

Apparently the first rule of addiction is admiting the addiction...
I only started skiing 5 years ago and have managed about 8 weeks skiing so far. This year I cant even ski as I'm recovering from ACL reconstruction on my right knee from a skiing fall last winter and wont ski untill next winter. :( :(
BUT.....every day I open my laptop and spend hours on J2ski reading over every post and loving the banter between the regulars (I have been on J2ski for a few years but dont post to often, prefering to read and laugh)and checking the snow reports for every resort I have ever been to. I constantly check for cheap air fares to various european airports near the slopes even though i know I cant go for at least 10 months!! I can't pass TK MAX without checking to see if they have any hidden gems in the ski section and cant stop buying ski jackets, trousers and anything else that I just have to have. Whenever anyone of my friends tells me that there thinking of going skiing I always tell them that I'll sort it for them just to feel like I'm a bit nearer to the slopes. When I'm doing my exercises to help with the knee rehab I constantly wonder if I'll still be able to carve off my right side and if I will continue to improve or will I be left as a intermediate who can get down anything but really need a lesson or 2 to improve my technique??
As I type this I'm watching the skiing on eurosport and can sit for hours watching Nomads on Rush HD and be in awe of the kind of skiing I hope one day I will be able to do myself.
I could continue and bore everyone to death about this addiction but I have a small hunch that I'm not alone.......
Am I???

Ski weekends

Tony,
Grenoble is only just over an hour drive from Alpe D'Huez. I have managed cheap weekends there a few times. I phoned the Alpe d'Huez tourist office (0033476114444) and managed to get a basic 2 bed appartment in the town 100 yards from the ski lift for 65 euros a night between 3 blokes. The have a good selection to suit your budget.
There is a bus from the airport but we hired a car (carhire3000.com) for 30 euros a day.
All in we got 3 days accomodation plus flights and car hire for less than 200 euros each. Bargin :D
Mountain is good too, would not be as challenging as St Anton but there is some great views from the top of the glaicers and the tunnel is a great run (my profile picture was taken halfway down the tunnel).
I know your not fond of French skiing but for a cheap snow fix it does the job :)

RossF...If i was a Munster fan I would never ski cos I'd be too busy getting married to my sister and bandwagon jumping like the rest of the red necks!
And yes I will be in Twickenham to watch Leinster beat Wasps tomorrow. :P
Mind you Ross, you are kinda funny )

Wanderer is right, a J2ski type of ski holiday/piss up sounds great for next year. Imagine if the likes of Pavel and Jan really couldnt ski at all!! Is RossF really funny?? :?: Does Tony talk as much as he writes?? and just think of what we could find out about the real people on this site!!
