Thanks Ally for your comprehensive reply. There was a quie a few things there that I hadn't though of. I'll email the ski schools and get more info and take it from there. Thanks again

We're just on the point of booking our third ski holiday and planning on going to Cervinia in the first week of April. Group comprises myself, husband and 14 yr old son. For our two previous trips we've just booked everything through the ski operator but beginning ( just!) to feel as if we're learning the ropes now and so planning this time to sort out ski hire, lift passes and ski school ourselves, as it seems cheaper. There appears to be three ski schools in Cervinia. Anyone got any preferences or comments to help us choose which one or are they all much of a muchness?
We're likely to book travel/ accommodation through Crystal. Presumably it makes no real difference ( other than possibly cost) whether you book ski school through Crystal as part of overall package or organise yourself? Any advice or comment gratefully received. Can't wait! |

Looking for suggestions for second ski holiday. So one up from complete beginners. Family comprises parents and 13 year old son. Its our 25th wedding anniversary so would prefer prettier resort rather than purpose built but open to all suggestions. Apres ski not important other than some nice restaurants. Would prefer somewhere with wider intermediate runs rather than narrow roads-during-summer type!
Ideally looking to fly from Scotland with shorter rather than longer transfer time at the other side as we have a 4 hour journey already at the home side to get to Glasgow/ Edinburgh. Also would prefer lifts close to accommodation. Any suggestions very welcome. |

Looking for suggestions for where to go for second ski holiday in February 2011. So basically one step up from absolute beginners.

We're planning our first family skiing holdiday - Week beginning 28th March.
Looking at La Thuile. Interested in anyone's comments as to how good this would be for beginners. Also if we go with a tour operator, should we book the all inclusive Learn to Ski packages or just sort out when we get there? |

Planning a family skiing holiday for the first time for week 28/3 - 4/4/09 approx. Basically all beginners ( 2 adults and an 11 year old). Would prefer Italy. Where would you recommend? Looking for good place for beginners, picturesque , few good restaurants and good chance of snow . Not bothered about about apres - ski as long as a good food and a nice glass of wine available at the end of the day!
After an evening on the internet seems better to just book a flight, hire a car and sort out hotels, ski school and equipment hire ourselves. Does that seem reasonable given its our first skiing holiday or would it be better just to go for the package option? Other than flights, would we need to book everything in advance at that time of year? Any advice gratefully received! Looking forward to it but there's so much choice - difficult to know where to start... Catriona |
