Due to heavy snowfalls and high winds on the Col du Lautaret it has been closed.
If you are diving to Serre Chevalier you will have to go via the Col de la Croix Haute (essentially Grenoble-Gap-Briancon).
More info and updates on the states of the roads in Isère and Haute Alpes here:

Both in English (mostly).

May I be so bold as to say this is a very dangerous statement, and incorrect.
Some countries will not permit you to drive WITHOUT winter tyres on all roads, so you really need to have them on all 4 wheels as a matter of course. But in extreme conditions, roads close to drivers who do not have snow chains, and with that in mind I would suggest you do not travel without chains. Chances are you will not need any, but saying it is unlikely you will need them as a result of having winter tyres is, frankly, wrong, as there is a good chance you might.

What?
You argument is both circular and confirms what I wrote in my own post.
I understand that, as you do not live here in the Alps, you do not have direct day to day experience of winter conditions but my statement IMHO in neither dangerous or incorrect.

In Italy, yes, though presciption sunglasses are permitted.
A second pair is recommended in France, but not obligatory, as are a spare set of contacts if you wear them.
You are however obliged to wear glasses/contacts if you need them.
If you are driving in France don't forget that you are requied to carry your driving licence, car registration and insurance documents with you, and to be able to produce them on demand when in your car at all times.
Hoe wrong does it take to....

There is hardly anybody in ADH at the moment so opening the whole system up would be expensive.
There is plenty of early season snow and its currently snowing.
There should be lots more pistes open and lifts running from Saturday.

If you have winter tyres you are unlikely to need chains.
If you do want to buy them you should follow Merryskis advice about buying them in France, in a supermarket or a branch of Norauto (like Halfords).
Re: your driving shoes...you might want to keep a pair of snow boots inside the car for when you step out into a foot of fresh snow on arrival!

ADH is open now, though they are obviously saving the proper opening until more people turn up over the weekend.
A few runs/lifts are open and there's enough snow to get some turns in.
Here's a pic of the better half on Le Dahut, just below the Marmottes 1 chairlift, enjoying her new boots. That's Signal over her shoulder.

The snow is good in the resort and is currently skiable down to Huez, noted on the way up/down in the car.
