I would love to post one but I don't know how to get it in here.
Is there an idiots guide to adding pics to posts? I have an avatar but I think everyone will know where that is. Harry |

Things seem to have drifted off a bit:
BELHAVEN BEST - AVIEMORE SCHLADMINGER - SCHLADMING CAFFREYS - THE IRISH BAR - EVERYWHERE. MED RARE - but it is the cut of the meat not the cooking Fillet prefered. Gave up 7 Years ago, Although you are welcome to kill yourselves providing you are somewhere with a maximum of 2 walls. |

I have just read through 5 pages of this thread and I am amazed nobody recommended Lake Tahoe.
Having skied in USA, Canada and Europe I think for a large mixed group it is unbeatable on a combination of the following grounds: There are 23 different ski area's around the Lake. It is very scenic. It has everything from Ultra Steep and powder to completely beginner friendly - Squaw Valley alone has every type of run. There is a combined lift pass for 7 of the largest resorts and public transport to get you to them if you don't want to drive. If you do drive there are lots of smaller areas and very cheap options to try. You can have days not skiing, in Virginia City and Reno or combine it with San Francisco for even more variety. There is an abundance of snow, usually measured in feet not centimetres and normally Blue skies. It isn't probably the best for any particular area but has so many boxes ticked that everyone in a large group will find something or somewhere they have to try out. |

They are in my experience of Austria and Scotland this year and last, wildly inaccurate and extremely optimistic.
I am not sure how they do it but both this site and snow-forecast.com seem to have a fantasy factor built in to their forecasts which increases the further into the future the forecast is for, this gradually reduces as it becomes closer to the day. I am sure if you check the following days forecast every day for the next 6 days it will probably be accurate -ish. But it isn't just the forecasts that exaggerate the snow depths, the resorts lie in their snow reports too. Anyone reading snow reports and weather forecasts now would think we had entered the next ice age not and not worrying about global warming. |

I have skied in Schladming the last two seasons I would say that for absolute beginners Schladming is fine but once you have progressed beyond knowing how to get to the bottom of a slope it is absolutely useless as a beginner destination.
The reasons I say that are: 1. That the piste map shows quite a few blue runs but some should definitely be green and some others would easily qualify as a red in other resorts, unfortunately it isn't easy to tell until you are on them which category the particular blue you are on should be, those blues on Hauser Kaibling are generally the most difficult. 2. There are 4 mountains and only 2 are connected above the valley level so moving around involves a trip to the valley, however the blue runs are gernerally at the top of the mountain and change to red half way down so the only option is to come down via the lifts ( with the resort altitude and lack of snow at valley level this is not unknown anyhow ). 3. The village is great and they have their own brewery so the beer is good too. 4. The ski schools seemed to excellent, they use buses to get the pupils from lovely blues at the top of Planai back to town, an excellent choice as opposed to the alternative route for a beginner - via a stretcher behind a ski patroller. 5. Schladming is busy at weekends and very quiet midweek. |

being scottish and careful with the pennies could i suggest a forum where anyone who is given a code for a discount when making an online booking can share it with everyone else?
I know crystal used to have one for everyone who had holidayed with them the previous season, I'm sure between us we know of lots more! |

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations of a good beginner resort in Italy?
The member of our group isn't really a beginner as such, just extremely cautious, we recently came back from Schladming in Austria which had quite a few easy runs which all involved accessing harder pistes to get back to the bottom. This involved a lot of dummy spitting, so looking to find a resort with blues which either go all the way to the bottom of the lifts or somewhere it is possible to catch the lifts back to the bottom, neither of which seemed to be a common option in Austria. |
