Am currently halfway through my week here in Valloire and wanted to post good news for anyone coming out at the weekend.
It started snowing here yesterday evening and has now snowed almost constantly for over 24 hours. There has been about 8 inches down here in the village with more up the mountain and with temperatures set to be very cold it's looking good not only fe the rest of the week for me but those of you heading out here! Thanks to all for the replies so far - I have narrowed it to Morzine or Valloire now.
Morzine looks to have alot more tree runs which is what I'm looking for but a bit concerned its a lower altitude.... |

Am just about to book somewhere for the 1st week of February - am looking for lots of nice easy cruisey blues preferably through the trees.
Snow looks pretty good everywhere at the moment so am hoping that won't be too much of an issue with the decision.......... So my choices are :- - Val Cenis - Valloire - La Plagne (Soleil) - Morzine Your thoughts would be much appreciated :) Mel |

I came to skiing quite late a few years ago in my early 30's and what I learnt that very first year (despite the aches and pains, a room permanently smelling of Ralgex and a week of being told by our 19 year old Austrian instructor that its all so eeeeeasy) is that I wish I had taken the plunge much earlier.
I love the stillness and unbelievable silence when on a chairlift, the fact that you can get off the same chair/gondola several times and you are still in awe of the view and beauty of it all. The way that the snow can be so different to home that you can actually catch a single snowflake in the palm of your hand and see every perfect detail and if conditions are right the air is filled with that silver fairy dust. Now I'm not one for journeys or epiphanies but in skiing I have found for me the single thing in life where I am truly thinking about nothing else. It has been a revelation. It helped show me that I am braver than I ever thought I was, made me discover that I have a bit of a speed freak in me and that the determination to ski better just grows and grows. And of course there is always the gluhwein :D |

Hi all, 57 sleeps to go and yet I'm still sooooooo excited! Now I'm all booked up my thoughts are turning to running through my gear and seeing if I need anything new this year.
I'm a once a year skier and to date most of my skiing has been end Feb/beginning March which means I have only ever needed sunglasses. However I am skiing the end Jan/1st week of Feb this year and I want to get some goggles so I'm prepared for any flat light/snow conditions. I really don't want to spend more than say £30 as I'm only on the slopes for a week a year (sadly) and I'm very much an on piste nothing adventurous skier. I would therefore be grateful for any views as to brands/colour of lense tint to go for? I was wondering about Bolle (I like their sunglasses) for example. Thanks Mel |

Hi All,
First of all many thanks to those of you who helped me with advice regarding short transfer resorts with tree-line easy skiing. Its much appreciated. Taking everything into account I'm now finally down to the two mentioned above. I like the look of the skiing at both and my ski partner is erring towards La Clusaz. However my only concern is the height there as in general the highest blues are at 1600-1700m with the runs back to and the village itself somewhat lower at 1100m. We will be going out there the first week of Feb. Do we risk the weather and snow conditions for the preferred choice of La Clusaz or go for the more snowsure Montgenevre? Any views most welcome.......... Ta Mel |

Just wondering.....there seems to be a consensus of opinion that Cervinia is good for beginners but how about for slightly timid intermediates? There seems to be alot more red than blue on the piste map. My ski partner is technically sound but can get freaked by steep sections on pistes, the wider the piste the less the problem. Any views would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Mel C |
