At the moment i've paid £75 - bargain! :-) sorry lame gag i know but deposit only at this stage.
The serious answer though is for one week SC, transfers, flight (traditional package ie. Crystal/Thomson) plus lift pass, boot and ski hire came to £515 and thats departing on the 30th Jan. I would however mention that that includes about £75 of online discount and also a free lift pass so its deceptive really. It seems the lift pass is free with all the operators as i guess some kind of incentive to get more tourism there. |

Once again, thanks everyone for your thoughts and opinions.
Karen72 - i have gone for Chamrousse in the end. I gave up on Belle Plagne as the cost was just too much for us. m0nk3y - i really liked the looked of L2A but am restricted to a preference for a short transfer time by my ski partner. You do sound like a similar standard skiier so i'd interested to hear where is next for you?! To the more regular posters and experienced skiers - i guess my choice may seem a little disappointing but i had to severely compromise in the end on a combination of transfer time, cost and slopes. Personally i would have liked to have gone for Valmorel, Serre Chevalier or Montgenevre but hey ho the decision is made and i can't wait, just 8 and a half months to go :D |

Thanks everyone who has replied so far - especially the latest tips for Les Arcs and Valmorel. They are now in the mix with Belle Plagne, Montgenevre, Serre Chevalier and the little known but i like the look of Chamrousse. |

Hmmmmmmm i'm starting to think previous advice about France is not necessarily the best
To answer you Tony....i have been to St Johann (my fave so far), Rauris, Seefeld and Scheffau in Austria and Sauze D'Oulx in Italy. I just felt that this year Scheffau was the stick that broke the camel's back - piste maps with pistes on that dont exist and pistes that do exist but not on the map, got to the top of one chair lift to find only 3 steep reds down when the piste map said there were also two blues! Stopped a ski instructor who kindly informed me to ignore the maps and then advised as to the least difficult way down. Talking to an experienced friend they have recommended going to France to see what wide open nicely sloping pistes can be like (apparently!) |

Thanks so far everyone....................Crashandburn - if you like unpredictable piste maps and strangely graded runs then Austria is for you! Don't get me wrong i love it but feel i just need a couple of trips elsewhere to build some confidence and technique Pablo Escobar........oh for the cash to go to North America - when i win the lottery i'm straight there! In the meantime i've definitely decided on France :-) |

Ok so i'm not the bravest of skiers...........having been to Austria a few times now i'm getting fed up with blue runs that run parallel to a red but because it is shorter is classed as a blue, or runs that are 75% blue and 25% of it steep, narrow, moguled apparently blue! The time has come to forego Alpine charm and concentrate on the pistes :-)
So all you France fans out there help please! I am looking for some ideas for resorts with nice long, wide, open, gradual descent pistes (i dont mind the odd steep section for when i get brave). And do "green" runs actually exist as a concept ie. even gentler than a blue run? I am ploughing through the brochures and considering the likes of Morzine, Avoriaz, La Plagne, Valmorel, Valmeinier, Les Deux Alpes, Chamrousse, Montgenevre. Don't really want a transfer more than 2hrs 30mins which i know restricts me slightly. Any views/comments are gratefully accepted. Thankyou :) |
