info on la plagne

Couldn't agree more with all these comments; don't bother with the full paradiski pass, simply isn't worth it. Les Arcs is great though and very different from La Plagne so just upgrade the pass as and when you need it. Furthermore, if you're in Aime, you'll spend all your time getting over there and back. With all the snow we've had already, there'll be tons to keep you occupied in La Plagne. If it's open, do the Mont de la Guerre off the back into Champagny - it's incredible.
Buying ski boots

Mag,

Until recently (last two years) I had been skiing in a pair of old Salomons which were fine but dated. So, after dropping in to a local ski shop for a hat, I happened upon some of last years Salomon X-Wave 10 (I think). Essentially, they were £200 down from approx £300 just because they were a year old and while I don't know the ins and outs of ski boots, the inners were heat-moulded to my feet and they really made a difference to my technique when used for the first time in Les Arcs Jan 2007. They may not be the best for beginners but my point is, this shop is in Chelmsford - called Ski Plus on Navigation Road. You mentioned you were from Essex so hopefully this is near enough for you.

Hi,

Suggest you play this one carefully. I would recommend that your MiL has a full week of lessons with people (ideally inc a couple of brits) of a similar age and then let her take it steady in the afternoons (cafes, coffee and walking etc) and only ski if she feels like it. Other than that, pray for plenty of snow and good weather!

Thanks all, very helpful. Like you say Neiltoo, with all the snow so far, it should be great!
Les Menuires

Hi everyone,

Anyone been to Les Menuires before? I've skied all over France inc Meribel (some time ago) but never been here. Is it any good? Ideal resort for me is ski in-out, high level runs, plenty of pistes and a bar nearby. We're booked to go 10th Jan so just want to know what to expect!
Ski gloves

Large gauntlet, padded palms and some form of water-proofing. However, doesn't matter if you spend £1 million on a pair, if it's snowing enough, they'll get wet.
Queues for Lifts??

I agree with Tino 11 - always approach the queue from the 'other' side. ie. if the queue is snaking away across to the right, ski round the back and join it from the left. Other than that, place poles as wide as possible and puff out your chest!
If all else fails, use your pole to pop people in front out of their bindings.
