Well Daisy - it is his 40th, so life goes downhill from now on
How about heli skiing? I reckon about £1000 should sort that
How about a day/half day (budget?) with a guide.
A days boarding focussing just on your husband to board where he will enjoy etc.
Maybe arrange in advance to meet at a certain restaurant for lunch?
Over the back of La Masse - 3 valleys

Hi Crispy,
This looks like guide territory to me. I have a map with skiing itinerary routes of the 3V and there are 4 that go off the back of la Masse.
3 of these come back into the valley down towards St Martin De Belleville and one disapears of into the wide blue of the Maurienne valley.
The routes don't conveniently come back to marked pistes/ski lifts but end at roads and in villages. I haven't a clue what the terrain is like etc etc - not good enough at map reading for that.

For me the hidden gem of the whole Val Thorens valley is Pointe De la Masse above les Menuires. I love this mountain, good skking, generally much quieter than the rest of the valley as it is not on a route to anywhere and holds the snow well due to its aspect.
La Masse is well worth the effort in my view, whereas fighting all the way to the Cime de Carron may not be.
Hope this helps.

Id have to agree with this statement. I really enjoyed skiing La Masse in the mornings with the sunshine on our faces... Im going back to Val thorens on the 29th jan and this yr i was wanting to ski over the back of La Masse, have you ever done this and if so where does it finish?

Thanks

Sorry can't help with that - I know over the back is the Maurienne Valley and there is a lift back up to above Val Thorens but I haven't ventured further than the Masse pisted area .
Ski boots - hand baggage or checked in

It would so be worth the discomfort, although perhaps some sort of grippy stuff stuck on the soles would probably help avoid it all ending in tears! Smooth plastic boots + smooth hard flooring = disaster!

Insurance company - "so, you fell over and broke your leg skiing?"
Emma - "well not actually skiing ......"
Insurance co. " not skiing? Where did this accident happen?"
E - " erm .. South Terminal, Gatwick, on the run to gate 24, it was really busy and slippy and I missed the turn ......"
Insurance co. "and do you have any other medical impairments we should know about?"

An advantage with touring boots perhaps? That would be a fun discussion - "so these really are walking boots sir?"
"Well I am walking aren't I?"
Filthy dog owners

There used to be a very large black hairy dog in Les Arcs that had a wonderful time! It's human was a lifty and it would go up the chair with him and spend all day fooling around in the snow before thundering down the piste when it's human finished work.
When bored it would bark at skiers hoping to have snowballs thrown to chase.

OK - for those of you/us who like to pack boots in hand luggage, is this purely for weight distribution issues?
