Please don't talk to me about North Face Jackets. My OH has just spent the last month deciding, changing his mind, deciding, changing his mind, trying on, buying & taking back, wearing with different layers, waving his arms about, posing in front of the full-length mirror ....... and has finally decided on The North Face Varius Insulated Guide Jacket. The colour choice posed another dilemma, but thankfully he has taken my advice on that! Obviously there have been hours of research on the internet to find the best possible price. Normally he hates buying clothes (or parting with his money) so this has been quite an ordeal for him
Thus far, it's kept him warm & dry on the local playing field when launching his home made water powered rockets (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eGq2AwXpWI)so I hope it performs equally well on the slopes! I'll be waring my £29.99 Tchibo jacket which has performed perfectly well for the last 3 seasons, although I'm not sure how well it would do in a prolonged period of pouring rain - but it won't rain, so that's OK :D |

Happy new year to all - so glad one or two of you are around. I'm home alone while everyone else is partying. My Christmas cold has progressed a little & I no longer have an audible voice....only 21 sleeps 'til skiing so I decided to have a quiet night in to get better quickly :(
RoseR - hope you enjoy Finland I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it when you return. It was a strong possibility for us this year, but I thought I'd miss the mountains too much, so it's back on the 'to do' list. Here's to safe & snowy skiing to one & all :-) |

Aldi have their children's ski wear range coming in on Sunday 4th Jan - including thermals at £4.49 per set. Great value & they certainly do the the job perfectly well. Check out their web page.

I don't have a brother - can I adopt you? |

A stinking head cold & sciatica - and I've been good all year :(

Why am I here? I have mince pies to bake, food to prepare, a consignment from Santa to secrete into the lounge. I would quite like something to eat & to sit down & watch trash on the T.V. - & yet, as ever, when there are more important things to do, I find myself checking snow reports & chit chat :(
Happy Christmas to everyone - enjoy all the snow! |

We went for 10 days at the end of January 2006 - loads of snow & a great base to explore the PDS. If you're beginners, then you should find that the Chatel pass gives you a big enough ski area. If you're looking to explore further afield then go for the full PDS pass. Initially we were based in Linga a short way out of Chatel, which gave us easy access to Avoriaz. We were then moved to a different chalet in Chatel itself, which was much handier for Super Chatel, Torgon & Morgins. However, regular buses run between Chatel, Linga & Pre la Joux so you can easily access the different areas.
I remember we covered miles & miles that holiday & each area had a very different feel to it. It's best to decide on where you want to ski each day & explore that area - you can easily find yourself tired & a long way from home! We took the TS Chavanette from Avoriaz down over the 'Swiss Wall'. It was quite a scary experience getting onto a lift that was going down - especially with a seven year old. There were people attempting to ski down the Wall who should definitely have been on the lift :? We were in a catered (allegedly) chalet so can't recommend any places to eat. I've just had a quick flick through my photos to remind myself of what a fantastic time we had. It was pretty quiet everywhere too. Have a great time! |
