Ski 2011/12 advice
Started by User in Austria, 7 Replies
what's mayerhofen like in Dec? I've been in Jan 2009 and all runs were open but not sure about heading there before xmas. Did anyone go during Dec 2010?
Pablo, could you give me an update on the condition of the access (roads) to the Nevis Range?

I'm thinking about heading up there tomorrow from Motherwell all pending a last minute weather check on the snow up there

Thanks

Check this site out
http://www.shadestation.co.uk/Dragon-Goggles.html

Nice prices and they are not a wharehouse somewhere, they are a shop on Leeds highstreet (found them when I was working in Leeds). Orders are dispatched from the shop.

Fast delivery times and if you like Mr.H's Goggles they are £72 including free delivery

I recomend the Dragon or Von Zipper range as most of them go for around £55.

With Dragon you get the spare low light lense. Nice goggles, loads of choice with frames and colors. Mate has a pair of the DX and I will prob pick up a pair someday.

DX= large frame
DXS = smaller frame

Edit: I have a pair of A-Frames, Electric EG1 and Airblaster goggles (google them)

A-frames are good for helmets as they are a smaller frame and the straps have large clips at the side to help stretch over.

EG1s are bigger frame wise, good for cruising days with large peripheral vision. They are very light.

My Airblaster were imported from the US - More of a rubbery frame and are more cylindrical lense.

Choices, choices lol

1 pair of skis (in ski bag)
1 pair of boots
1 pair of goggles (1 spare lense)
2 pairs of gloves (heavy and light pair)
1 pair of sunglasses (not for skiing)
1 hat
1 helmet
2 jackets - Burton jacket for colder waether and lighter Superdry jacket for sunny days
3 base layers
Never needed fleeces so don't take them any more
2 sallos - really like my West Beach ones as they never trap sweat.
6 pairs of ski socks
1 small screwdriver just encase - for bindings
factor 25 suncream - I don't like the goggle burn look
Ipod with a few songlists

Yeah the small suit cases are annoying. Why do they need them?

When I was flying to Tenerife the woman in front of me had one stuffed with things for her kids. Kept getting up and opening and closing the dam thing!

When I go skiing I have a small bag to keep any magazines,gloves,hat,ipod and goggles.

Goggles are the only thing I keep with me outwith my suitcase so I can look after them better. We would all like an extra seat on the plane so we can keep our ski gear with us. Unfortunately we have to make compromises and check them in.
