Aaaarghh - I can hear you all saying! NOT AGAIN, not another how to pack my ski-boots topic.
*Sorry* its gotta be done I am afraid - looks like things change from 1 year to the next - only to catch those innocent newbies out.
So here goes: just phoned the Easyjet Customer Experience centre (if you manage to even find their number on the website) - TWICE.... and got 2 TOTALLY different answers:
Website Offical) The official tag on the website is:
Sports Equipment: An additional non-refundable fee is charged per flight for the carriage of bicycles, golf equipment, skis, surfboards, wind surfers, hang gliders, and firearms. Ski boots will have to be checked in as normal hold baggage subject to hold baggage fees and cannot be carried as hand baggage due to security reasons. Details of sport equipment and baggage allowances can be found in our Carriers
Regulations.
Summary from my discussion with two different agents on the so called Customer Experience centre:
So what was I told: :?: :?: :?: :?:
:!:Agent 1) Ski Boots on their own are ok and will be charged at the Sports Equipment rate of 18.50.... no problem
:!:Agent 2) Ski Boots cannot be taken on their own as Sports Equipment. If on their own you gotta pack in to normal hold luggage (your existing 1 bag - thats what you paid for) - and then you gotta pay the excess baggage weight - on your total luggage load (assuming you go over the limit of 20KG's). So lets assume I have used 20KG's for clothes and my boots weigh 5 KG - I gotta buy the 2x bundled 3Kg (=6KG of extra weight) = packages at 21 pounds per bundled package = 42...... for each flight - so total 84.00 for the two legs there and back)
However, if I take the Boots with Ski's (even though they will be two seperate bags (I checked this - 1 for the boots and 1 for the ski's) - this "package" is considered as Sports Equipment - and therefore you pay the FLAT rate of 18.50 (each way of course 2x18.50 =37.00)- and voila.
So agent 2 sort of ties up with the OFFICIAL WEB STATEMENT
But How stupid is that! So for 1 x EXTRA Ski Bags (just for the ski's) - meaning Easyjet will now have to carry an additional item of luggage they want to charge me 37.00 (instead of allowing me to just take Ski BOOT bags).
SO ANYBODY GOT ANY IDEAS HERE? I cannot get a straight answer - and can see that picture we all love at the airport where you arrive and have to convince the lovely hen behind the desk that you DID read the website and spoke to ALL these guys and gals on the forums and you are right!
(just to complicate things - there are two of us travelling - so the above scenario is in effect doubled) But lets keep it simple for now.

Pack your boots in your suitcase. 20kg is plenty allowance for a weeks ski holiday. Dont be such a girl and take so many clothes!
Dont put your boots in their own bag. They could get lost or damaged, or as you have found out you might end up being charged for them.
Seriously, pack them in your case as part of your 20kg. If you need more than that to take with you, you are doing something wrong.

Hi Tony
Nice try :P but we are going for 16 days. And besides its not MY bag I am worried about - its my wife's!!! You know what they are like. :D
Why do they make Ski-boots so darn heavy anyway!!! 5.1 KG's to be exact - no wonder I am knackered after a day's ski'ing!

Use a launderette out there, or wash clothes yourself.

I have always put my boots in my hand luggage (which is a small rucksac) and I have never had any problems.

...of course it could be because my boots are small enough to fit into a rucksac and do not exceed weight restrictions. My hubby puts his in his suitecase.

LOL - Tony - you are right!
On the laundrette - going on holiday to NOT have to do housework ;-)
AND on the HERE WE GO AGAIN - HOLD ON!
@Snowb4ndit: apparently - rumour - speculation - the grapevine - you will get stopped at security - on either end - scared you might take over the plane wielding a Ski Boot! or something. ;-)
