Secondly, write a packing list, store it on your computer. When you come back, call up the list, and delete anything you didn't wear.

I have to admit thats the work of a genius.

Thank you T. It's my engineering training.

What have I got to show for a lifetimes work? Two patents, and the ability to make a list of underpants & associated items. How sad is that?

That wouldn't work for me - I took my red top last year and didn't wear it but I don't like it any more so wouldn't be taking it again anyway, I'll be taking my new green one instead.

I think two patents is an excellent achievement Dave! Anything interesting?

It's people who insist on taking their boots on the plane who use up all the overhead storage space.

Really annoying when you can't put your bag or jacket above your seat because some [Shut it] has filled it up with oversized hand luggage

My rucksack is smaller than most peoples hand luggage, even with my boots in it!

If hand luggage is oversized it's not allowed onto the plane with you.

Chuffy DOES have a point though. Last time I flew with Ryanair, and being conscious of limits and restrictions, I found it hard to understand how so many people were taking what I can only describe as small suitcases on to the flight. No way would these have fitted into the basket to check for dimensions, and by the time about 30 people were on board the overhead lockers were full up!!!

Well what we should do in that case (pardon the pun) is take a tape measure with us and get the oversized bags chucked off. Problem sorted!

I must admit I was very surprised, as well, when we flew to Geneva with Easyjet a few weeks ago at the 'small suitcases' people were using as hand luggage.

There was a measuring box, by the checking in desks, but the Easyjet staff didn't seem bothered about using it.

And, while we're talking about other passengers' annoying habits - I was quite confused not to be given a seat number, but just to be told I was in group B for boarding, and we patiently waited for the group B announcement only to discover that apparently we were the only 2 people in group B, and everyone else had already got on the plane, hogged all the overhead locker space, and we had to sit separately because there weren't any double seats left.

That was in Bristol airport. However, flying back was quite different. The French/Swiss airport staff made everyone wait and actually board in their correct groups, and we did get seats together, and locker space.

Yeah the small suit cases are annoying. Why do they need them?

When I was flying to Tenerife the woman in front of me had one stuffed with things for her kids. Kept getting up and opening and closing the dam thing!

When I go skiing I have a small bag to keep any magazines, gloves, hat, ipod and goggles.

Goggles are the only thing I keep with me outwith my suitcase so I can look after them better. We would all like an extra seat on the plane so we can keep our ski gear with us. Unfortunately we have to make compromises and check them in.

Ally, my goodness you either dont pay attention or are very laid back!
When you book online/check in, you do not get a seat allocated. You can pay more for speedy boarding which means your group will be first on the plane, but generally anyone else has to fight to find a seat once you get onboard.

You only get a seat number if you fly scheduled or charter airlines, and even then you are not guaranteed to sit together. You can of course pay extra (are you seeing a theme develop here?) and prebook seats together, but in all my time flying I have managed to get to sit next to Mrs H and pretty close to anyone else we are flying with if needs be.

Using Easyjet and Ryanair is like using a bus, you should treat it the same way I am afraid.
