Darrylhuk,
I agree that the Easyjet luggage restrictions are a bit annoying. My daughter got told off for carrying a hand bag and an item of hand luggage -but she solved the problem by temporarily putting her hand bag in her hand luggage.
We hire our boots and skis in resort so we've never been over the baggage allowance, and usually now we go by train, where they don't weigh your luggage.
I would have thought you could keep your own luggage weight down, by following the excellent suggestions already posted on here, and if your wife insists on packing so much stuff that her luggage goes over weight then I think she should pay the excess baggage charge herself ). Presumably, to her, it would be worth the extra money. We all enjoy our holidays in different ways and having a lot of luggage may well be an integral part of her holiday.

Slightly off topic, but I am being serious here.
Last time we went to the States, my brother took almost no clothing at all, just the essentials. He spent the first day shopping, as he claims it was all cheaper over there anyway, and at the end of the two week trip, he boxed all his dirty clothing up and posted it back to himself at home
He claims he will do the same next time we go as well. The point being he always has room for his boots in his case :!:
Meantime for Europe we either drive or get the train.

Depending on where you are staying, you might also buy stuff on line from US stores, and have it delivered to your condo/hotel before you arrive. There is no sales tax for online purchases, provided you are not in the State, that the store is in. Don't order stuff from the US for delivery to Canada, as the Canadian import taxes are a pain. Since some of the US airlines restricted baggage to one checked item, many people now ship their boards and skis ahead of them. So the condos, and hotels are used to dealing with packages for people who haven't arrived yet.
I have never had a problem with ski boots in carry on luggage with US carriers.

To go back to the part about taking boots through security I think it's a certain country's rules.
I have an inkling it is France but may also be Switzerland as at Geneva they make everyone take off their shoes. Unless Geneva operates according to French laws - that's a strange place with the two sectors.
I remember my friend being stopped last year, and there was one of those 'debates' on these pages that led to an argument about Ryanair and their sneaky practices.
I await correction!

Secondly, write a packing list, store it on your computer. When you come back, call up the list, and delete anything you didn't wear.
Thank you T. It's my engineering training.
What have I got to show for a lifetimes work? Two patents, and the ability to make a list of underpants & associated items. How sad is that?

KevinC,
We went through the Swiss bit of Geneva airport a few weeks ago, and we didn't have to take our shoes off, but a man in front of me had to take his boots off (not ski boots, I mean ordinary boots). So maybe they allow shoes but not boots?

Its not a case of allowing but they do make people take boots off and not shoes often.AllyG wrote:KevinC,
