no_snow_in_swindon You may not need this but underneath the Planai gondolla at the bottom is a huge locker room. Was 1Euro a time for a locker which can easily fit 2 sets of skis, poles, boots etc. As you have blades and short distance from here you may not need it but worth knowing.

On your first day to break yourself in there are number of gentle runs around the blue 8 on the Planai with a nice little watering hole half way down blue 8 by the wigwams and T bar called the Marchenweiss hut. I daresay we will be around there for a livener on sunday at some stage.
Enjoy youreslf and by the way it was snowing today and quite abit more due before, when and after we arrive!!

Bascially, the best way to travel is with your boots packed in your suitcase which gets checked in. If you take skis, you can pack your ski bag out with sallos and ski jacket (or wear it to travel in) and then use hand luggage to carry bits like spare pair of shoes, electrical items, etc. I have always packed ski boots in my suitcase. If you need more than 20kgs for a week, you ought to think about a different type of holiday )

Sorry mate if you had to repeat the info again but i only found out about Thomson's being abit shirty and no boot bags on saturday. I'm a great believer in 'Dont ask dont get', and by asking you and others have told me what I needed to know. Ta

Flying out to Salzburg on Saturday with Thomson. I have my own boots and have always found it easier to hire skis when I arrive. I have always found in the past that as long as my total allowance was within the limit that I could put a holdhall and boot bag in the hold, and just carry on hand luggage. With the tighter security limiting to one item in the hold, maximum weight 20kg, hand luggage up to 10 kg as long as your combined holdhall/cabin weight does not exceed 25kgs.
Has anyone flown with them recently and if so can you get a boot bag in the overhead cabin storage, I fear it might be a bit tight!! As a general rule I have found they do not normally weigh hand luggage or are thet getting stricter. Life gets so complicated!!!

no_snow_in_swindon they are expecting quite a fall of the white stuff midweek just in time for our arrival but have no fear they can get by without it!! On the 4 mountains they have 640+ snow cannons in case of emegencies and when we were there 2 years ago which was the mildest winter in 40 years and literally everything other than piste was green the skiing was still fantastic.
My personl favourite mountain is the Haiber Kaisling which is to the left of Schladming Town and Planai mountain as you look at it. You will be spolit for choice.

When you finish skiing on the day of the race, if you dont leave you can stay in the area, however once you leave yo will not back in without a ticket as they barrier the area into two cordoned off areas. Take in a bit of the atmosphere then walk towards town as they have outdoor bands, bars, food stalls, etc. The place goes nuts and the town is abit like it the night before. Depending where you are staying trying a get a taxi on the day of the race if you need to get home is a mare.
It is literally liike the circus coming to town and there will be a few drunk Austrians on show and so there should be.

My group of 6 is travelling within a big group of 40, we are flying with Thomson saturday afternoon at about 1430 hrs. Stay at a delightful Alpenhotel Neuwirt which is a about 2.5k out of town.
