So, after the rather well behaved (cough) week in the Andes last summer I lay in bed in Helsinki this morning with my beautiful fiancé pricing up 8 days riding in the Southern Hemisphere with 6 days on top to see the country. Anticipation rising of being able to let loose this time as hopefully I won't have a 4cm fracture in my skull and a broken clavical. That slowed me up so much last year ;)

Got presented with the question, do you think it's the right time to "holiday" in Chile, to which I answered I believed it to be the best time. Any little I can do to keep the economy seems right. That and I loved the place so much last time it seems right.

No airmiles left so this is gonna be 20 hours in economy which given my experience last time out will be tough. Will need two doses of Valium I think, one for the flight and one for the future Mrs_11 ;) well not for her exactly but you know what I mean.

Decided to book, borrow and pay for it this week. Never know what will happen the week after. She has agreed to learn the noble art of snowboarding rather than skiing. I couldn't be happier :)

Will Be there April 7th and even if I'm riding on grass I'll be happy, Mayrhofen is a great place ;)

Welcome!! Where do you hail from? US or UK?

Feldberg is the nearest resort of any size to me and I know it quite well. Saying that I have not been this season as I always seem to forget to get off the train in Freiburg and end up in Switzerland to snowboard ;)

There is enough to do there for a couple of days including a couple of nice black runs. Nightlife is interesting!! If you like drunk locals opening bottles of beer with a petrol driven chainsaw in a very small bar  I do stay down there sometimes but it's a series of little hamlets rather than a resort.

If you want a bit of urban nightlife the Freiburg would be a better option than Baden Baden, as it's not full of millionaires and pensioners!! Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful but not thrilling at night unless you like to gamble as BB has an absolutely stunning casino.

Might see you down there that weekend, have fun.

Thank you Rose, I need a new idea now though!!!

If you are out there Rose, I am looking for 3 StormTrooper outfits for a week in April. I also need a Darth Vader costume, 4 handbags and an assortment of cheap jewelry, but if you and hubby are interested in discussing the former let me know :D
bandit wrote:Tino, I went skiing with someone, who'd put his Avalung on underneath his jacket  I did mentiion it, and he moved it )

If you are thinking Avalung, then it's time to think about a Transciever as well. It's all well and good to be able to breathe whilst under avvy debris, but how will anyone know where to start digging?

you are totally right of course, and I'm thinking of going whole hog on the avalanche safety. But as a predominantly solo rider the benefit it questionable for most forms of safety. Need some mates ;)

on the positive side, Engelberg after a fall of snow is the best place I have EVER snowboarded. If you like off piste it is heaven, just like the marketing claims. Never had so much fun standing up :)
